Long story/background -

Unfortunately, my 2003 G500 was rear-ended at high speed while I was stopped. I was not at fault, and the other driver's insurer has accepted liability.

The G was in very good condition before the accident, with 104,384 miles, a clean Carfax, no known material mechanical issues, and a number of OEM/aftermarket upgrades (off-road wheels/tires, later-style grille, upgraded headlights/taillights, factory brush guard, auxiliary lights, etc.).

The visible damage initially appeared relatively concentrated around the rear of the vehicle—primarily the rear bumper, fuel tank/fuel system components, and related areas. I have since had an opportunity to inspect the vehicle myself, including underneath it. I did not see anything that obviously suggested catastrophic structural damage, although I will defer to the experts once inspected.

The insurer immediately treated the G as a total loss without an inspection based largely on its age/model year and the initial information. After pushing back, they have now agreed to have the vehicle inspected to determine the actual extent of the damage.

The other issue is the valuation. The initial valuation I received appears to be at the extreme low end of the range of values I am seeing for comparable 2003 G500s, particularly when looking at actual completed Bring a Trailer sales. In fact, the valuation seems more consistent with what I would expect for a much higher-mileage example (e.g., those with 200,000 miles or more and pure stock).

I'm therefore looking for a qualified independent appraiser who understands G-Wagens and can provide an objective pre-loss valuation, and potentially help assess the vehicle/damage if appropriate (though my shop is supposed to do that). If possible, someone in the Chicago area or elsewhere in Illinois who has experience dealing with insurance total-loss/ACV disputes.

If anyone has used an appraiser they would personally recommend, particularly someone who knows W463s and understands the difference between valuing a generic 2003 SUV and valuing a properly maintained G500, I'd really appreciate a name/contact.

found the ecu fuse blown 7.5 amp put s new one in and the poof. we'll I found water dripping on to the ecu.

so I need to figure out why I have water leaking inside and how difficult a replacement ECU is going to be

Has anyone replaced the sills with 75x50x3 galvanised RHS (rectangular hollow section) ?

I read it has been done in South Africa to strengthen the body. It looks fairly straightforward, Cut out the existing sills, clean up, solid weld in place. No worry about jack points as the whole sill becomes a jack point.

In our case, the G is driven about 1,000 km/yr, usually at about 50 km/h, moving stone, poles and gardening kit. It's on an island so no motorways (or stoplights for that matter).

My LHD G 500 is in need of a new Chassis here in the UK (ravages of salt). MB Dealer tells me they're no longer available new. Surprises me. Can anyone here confirm that is the case or if so, any sources of good used, anywhere within Europe?. It may have to be parted out otherwise and I really don't want to do that after 18 years ownership.
Any input really appreciated.

It requires a full time 12-volt fused connection and a cell phone to view the recorded pics.
Setup on the cellphone was easy enough, but I had to figure a way to get the cable with 12 to 5 vdc converter connected to the 12 volts.
I was at a loss as to where I would route it and to what place on the 2025 G550.
I finally located thru YouTube where the battery is located in the G.
It is under the rear cargo floor.
It was cold today, but I found the sockets and star drive to open the four bolts on the cargo panel floor.
Sure enough, it is very east to find.
This location will make it easy to route the wire over from the rear door window to the rubber trim and down to the floor in the rear, the into the battery area.
Connections should be easy once I get it open.
