Alaskagwagen Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Strange early G-wagen dash Here is a link to an outrageously priced 1979 Gwagen. I have attached a couple of photos to show the dash- on the passenger side things are a bit different. THe color makes me think border guards? Is this dash configuration an option and if so what is it? I like the fact that this truck is supposedly not needing anything - there is no gas pedal! http://www.luxeauto.com/lw/inventory_detail.cfm?Invid=235 Adam (5077-0008.jpg) (5077-0010.jpg) (5077-0013.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 5077-0008.jpg (74KB - 12 downloads) 5077-0010.jpg (72KB - 9 downloads) 5077-0013.jpg (66KB - 9 downloads)

Later they drove 230GE with automatic transmission. There is no first-aid kit inside the dash ... it is where it always is ... instead of the glovebox there had been an 4m-Radio inside ... and in front of the codriver, there had been a flipable table. Overall it looks like a very nice 280GE ... :-)

The clock space is also serving some other function. Looks like a timer...perhaps it was used in a setting where it could be operated for only limited periods of time and then would shut down if left unattended. Very odd. Is anyone else able to explain that timer looking device? Other than these things, this could be an interesting vehicle. I may have history that would appeal to some as well. Thanks for sharing this.

It should be in the foot well of the passenger side. The holder seems to be there, but no black box. A flip table would be a nice feature.

But seems to be different from what I can see in the pictures. Fernando

The device in the clock space is a timer/switch for the Webasto heater . wkr Wout

Was the front locker an option at that time? i thought both were options and logicaly one would order both lockers :D

It is a former police vehicle, the black box on top of the dash is in fact a lid to the radio telephone equipment. the tunnining box was mounted in the first aid box spot which in turn was moved to holder to the right rear passenger side of the vehicle, our friend has correctly identified that it should also have a small flip down writing table like his THW. There may be other blanked off locations of switches for such things as blues and twos etc. there should be a number of flexible map reading lamps around the dash, the black vinyl seats and plain door panels are a give away. Definately not BGS Definatley Police and only one police force in Germany had a bright green and that was the Hansiatic City of Hamburg Edited by roughneck 5/23/2006 4:13 PM (FordTransitFernmelderHH.jpg) (MB230GEEZHHjoerns.jpg) Attachments ---------------- FordTransitFernmelderHH.jpg (76KB - 9 downloads) MB230GEEZHHjoerns.jpg (66KB - 9 downloads)

You could get the rear locker alone; but if you wanted the front locker, you had to get the rear locker, too.
