I've seen a few Ex-Military P4's for sale for prices that are considerably cheaper than a comparable Gwagen (like 6K Euros). Most of them are 2-door soft-top as well. I don't know just how much of these trucks are MB, but I know that they have Peugeot engine and transmission. It would be interesting to see what's interchangeable. Does anyone have experience with these trucks? Are there any forum members in France? (p4-turbo.jpg) Attachments ---------------- p4-turbo.jpg (52KB - 122 downloads)

It is the Peugeot 2.5 4 cylinder diesel (XD3) in most vehicles with a BA10/5 gearbox. These items are from the 505 Peugeot range and they have a very nice intercooled turbo version of this same engine (although not available in the military vehicles - the XD3T) which would make a good conversion to a standard P4. Dash, instruments, steering wheel and seats are different and most only have the rear diff lock (no front). Headlights and tailights are different (Peugeot 104 Headlights) and depending on the variant the bonnet can also be different (It is interesting that there is a vented bonnet available for the intercooled motor). There is a civilian variant of the military P4 but these command higher prices. You may even find a V6 petrol (PRV) variant, although an original one of these would be hard to find. I have an old parts microfiche somwhere but it is fair to say that P4 parts are tres expensive! I hope that this helps. John Edited by JMKOZ 6/25/2007 4:22 PM

I run this in my Land Rover. I had bell housing conversion to the LR 4-speed manual. I am in the slow process of mating it to a ZF out of a range rover. All I have to change is the bell housing, torque converter and the kick down cable over from a 505. On the P4, there was one for sale in the Daytona Beach, FL area 8 or 9 months ago. I asked him to send me photos but he was leaving for Europe the next day and I never followed up.

That's too bad. I was hoping for a situation like the $10K surplus Pinzgauers and $7K Unimogs we're so used to seeing.

Current bid E 2000,-. I don't see these getting very expensive. Being US Army cars, I'm afraid getting these registered for commercial use may be difficult.
