320cdi what ratio of biodiesel??

car in question is a ML320cdi

What's the REAL max biodiesel percentage?
My 270cdi (sprinter) runs nice up to about 70%.
Then, sometimes randomly, if I go over that ratio, a sensor in the engine freaks out and the car shuts down.
It's ok never damage, just restart car and it resets.
This experience is actually shared with 4 other sprinter owners I know.

BTW, so if less than B70% this never happens and sprinters run fine, for years now.

it's not a question of whether the motor itself as a long block can run biodiesel 100%, its just whether or not it throws off certain sensors / proms.

So
What is that threshold for this newer motor?

if there is one, is there a way to reprogram thru star?

anyone with this car have biodiesel experience??

RE: 320cdi what ratio of biodiesel??

Dutch, thanks, I know that though, and that's meaningless.
they all say that. it's lawyers talking.
even the VWs say this in their manuals, and they run on B100 just fine
I have over 10 friends with TDIs all who run only B100, and have for years, they have no problems ever.

So the question is, what is the real deal.
Might be interesting to see if the manuals in other countries or for other models this motor is in internationally say the same.

What's "real" is the fact the first thing your dealer will do if you have engine problems is check your fuel.  If it's greater than B5, you'll have no warranty.

Can it be reprogrammed with Star?  Given above what do you think?

Re: 320cdi what ratio of biodiesel??

Ok, first off, warranty service is worth little to me, so I am not really asking about how to drain out/burn away my biodiesel before going to the dealership.

Tons of people do this here in california all day long. (especially now that petro diesel is $4.45 a gallon!!)

If you have to go for service, then you simply run your tank out and fill it up with diesel before going to the dealer.

OK well I guess we'll have to check with some folks outside of the USA where fear is not so prevalent in people's decisions.

No matter how manly you are, "reprogrammed with STAR" is not an option.

Re: 320cdi what ratio of biodiesel??

I am tempted to start using Biodiesel now that dino diesel is more expensive. Has anyone had issues with clogged filters from "the cleanse"? The local supplier has B20, B50 and B99. Should I stick with B20 to start?

B5 is the most you can use.

Or what? I put B20 in the 1995 E300D. The fleet supplier did not offer any other blend. The car appears fine.

Your '95 doesn't have $750 injectors nor a $1500 electric fuel pump.

Re: 320cdi what ratio of biodiesel??

The Shell dealer in Hood River pumps B20 which we have put in our E320 CDI, no issues.

Otherwise we typically would just use pure dino or B5, I would never go out of my way for B100 like I do for the G, to "clean the injectors"

Do you make your own bio? My son and I both have sprinters and tried from 100% down to 10%, and the fuel filter would blok after 200 miles. We persisted for about 10 filter changes but it did not improve. Any suggestions?

Re: 320cdi what ratio of biodiesel??

Are you just blending or are you boiling and adding "stuff"? Do you have a fuel line or tank heater? Are you in a cold climate? Are you mixing WVO or SVO? Answers to these questions may answer your question.

Do you have access to a MB code reader? The code should be kept in the ECM.
