Hard start on 2002 ML320 continues

Thought it was the CPS, since that's what caused my hard start-no start on the ML430. Replaced it and no improvement. Had fuel filter done and it actually got a little worse, which leads me to believe it's the fuel pump. Thoughts?

Crying in the beer

Fuel pump was bad (bad check valve). Hooked up fuel pressure gauge and after engine shut off, went to zero.
