Photo DIY- M113 Breather Cover RE-SEALING.

Per my previous DIY, I made the double mistake of NOT re-sealing the Breather Covers. Since, aparently, these are one of the prime causes of Leakes in the valve cover region.

Not a huge deal.... because you can perform the procedure Either with the Valve Covers ON or OFF the Engine. This post is with the Covers ON the Head.

A few words of Caution: ONLY use the Specified Sealant. On the W210 site, there are several folks who tried other material (including well-know German brands), only to have them Re-Leak.

During removal of the OLD Sealant, you can either use a chemical Gasket remover (the Type Specified in WIS is NOT available in the USA, nor was there a M-B Ordering#), or a Non-Scratching/Non-Abrasive method, as I did using a plastic wedge, and my fingers.

You *MUST NOT GET EITHER THE OLD, OR THE NEW SEALANT INTO THE BREATHER AREAS*, otherwise you might plug one of the tiny Oil Drain Holes.

Also, you must purchase New Aluminum Screws.

Great writeup! Is that sealant the same stuff that is used on the lower oil pan?

I'm pretty sure it is.... as well as the Timing Cover Sealing material.
