Re: 1994 G320 (M104) ECU codes

It appears that this company in Germany does G320 ECU repairs. http://www.hitzpaetz.de

They also have pre-repaired ECU units available for purchase.

I'm going to talk with them to see if I can send them my failed G320 factory ECU and have them repair it.

Cheers,
Gerry

I gotta ask...did you disconnect battery and turn ignition off before the swap ?

I did not disconnect the battery, but the ignition was off. I will check the fuse first, it was okay last night but I think that was before.

Re: 1994 G320 (M104) ECU codes

The EPC says this ECU 017 545 37 32 is spec'd for the following models:

463.208
463.230
463.231

All of these are spec'd as G320 (M104.996) + G36 AMG models.

A 300GE (M103) model would be 463.207, 463.227 or 463.228.

RE: 1995 G320 ECU swap

Otiswesty - 3/13/2017 10:43 PM

Well, I was motivated to check out my convenience relay to see if that was effecting my radio... other thread
The ECU is behind the glove box, I pulled it last week to look at the part numbers. Here it is in situ

I ordered an identical used one on eBay and it came in the brown van "mail" today. While I was pulling the convenience relay, I'm like what the heck, lets swap the ECU and see what happens!

Hi Otis,

Compliments of the day.

If you do not mind, could you let me know how your ECU swap issue was resolved. I am having a similar drivability issue with my 1996 G320 and the diagnosis has pointed to a malfunctioning ECU.

My part number is same as yours VDO 0195450632.

Re: 1994 G320 (M104) ECU codes

I had my issues documented and tracked on the Benzworld.org website and several honourable gentlemen there have been offering good ideas and I am really grateful to them. Unfortunately, the issue with my vehicle still persists.

Re: 1994 G320 (M104) ECU codes

Yes, the 1992-1996-era "eco-junk" wiring harnesses found on all MBs from that period DO apply to the G-wagen as well. My 1995 G320 has had its upper harness replaced before I bought it.

An equivalent E320 (HFM W124 M104) ECU **does** work well with the earlier M104 G320 models. As Floob says, starting for the 1996 model year there was a coding system (DAS) that ties the ECU to the vehicle and requires special programming.

My stock G320 ECU failed about 1.5 years ago (two cylinders dead; not it wasn't a coil pack) and I replaced it with a non-ASR E320 ECU from 1995, US-spec. It has worked stupendously well since. I have not noticed any difference in running, gas mileage, etc. Plug and play. I detailed this in another thread.

The IR immobilizer is NOT tied to the ECU for 1994 and 1995 model year G320s. It is an independent system.

I have generally been able to apply M104 W124 ECU codes for the G320. The best reference for these codes is on the web site of my friend GSXR, and the PDF is located here: http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/diagnostics/DTC_List_W124_M1...

Lastly, gray-market G-wagens imported into the US **do not** have "CHECK ENGINE" lights.

Cheers,
Gerry

Hello Gerry,

Compliments of the day.

Could you please clarify for me if the Replacement ECU you used for your G320 is a VDO or BOSCH?

Reason I ask is that for my 1996 G320 that came originally with a VDO ECU #0195450632, which I am having drivability issues with right now. I have not been able to source a direct replacement so I adopted your suggestion only for me to discover that BOSCH ECUs always blew the #10 Fuse thereby losing power supply to the Engine Instrument Cluster.

Every other BOSCH ECU that was plugged into the vehicle blew the same #10 (7.5A) Fuse. Makes me wonder if the Wiring Harness for VDO ECUs is different from BOSCH ECUs.

Typical BOSCH ECUs have a full grid Pins layout while the equivalent VDO ECUs have a couple of Blank spaces in the Pins grid layout.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
