Gwagen 30th Anniversary Visit to Graz - May 2009

This is just a very preliminary consideration to join the German Gwagen Club in their 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Gwagen in Graz, Austria. There are no definite dates yet, but sometime in May 2009 is the tentative time. I've made contact with the German Club and they've indicated they'll let me know more as plans firm up. If you're interested, let me know.

More news as it develops.

We ought to try to include GWOA in it, too. We could end up with one heckuva gang.

This just received from the German Gwagen Club. Sorry for the somewhat poor translation, but the information should be understandable:

The Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen-Club e.V. plans in cooperation with the Swiss G-Club an event on the 18.06.2009 up to the 21.06.2009 to celebrate the 30th Birthday of the Mercedes G-Klasse in Graz. Tours are planned of the Magna-Steyr plant, orienteering trips, perhaps also a drive on the Schöckl (test-route for the G-Klasse) skill-courses, etc…

We will have a specific Website for this Event in approximately 4-8 weeks. You will find the Web-address on our Homepage http://www.g-club-ev.de at that time.

We would be very happy if you would provide this information on the P3 forum so that as many Gwagen owners as possible can come to Graz.

Mark your calendars and save your pennies, folks.

David - There are tentative plans for the GWOA to drive to the South of France - meet up with the Spanish G club and then drive in Convoy to Austria.

Yes I think there were talks of meeting them on route as well - but not 100% sure.

Great idea Max. Should be quite an spectacle. I'll be there.
Just a thought, if the event is organised for the 18-21 June, the Le Mans 24 hours is usually held on the 2nd weekend of June. It's more or less en-route. Do you think it would be too much to pack in if we stopped off there? I've hankered after going back since 1981.

The German club. There are rumours that there will be an event. Not quite as big as the 25th Anniversary though.

David - only a shame its not 6 weeks earlier as we could stop off on the way back from Tunisia....

Re: Possible Gwagen 30th Anniversary Visit to Graz - May 2009

so, the date is 95% fix now, and I personally think that this will be the biggest event ever. Anyway, what I would recommend, to place is sticker inside you rear window with Name (or Nickname), Club and location when you visit with your vehicle. A sticker or emblem on the jacket would help as well.

It's always a shame, when talking to each other in forum and then sitting next to each other without notifying it.

RE: Possible Gwagen 30th Anniversary Visit to Graz - May 2009

We regretted missing the last trip but life has been tooooo crazy for us over the past few years.

In the process of re-locating to Easley, SC (outside of Greenville) and would most definitely be able to make a trip in Spring or Summer of 2009.

Klaus,

we could move into Graz in three columns, one from the North, one from the West and the last one can cut into the right flank........I still have a brown shirt and a nice yellow "Armbinde " with a large letter "G" on it.......

Wouldn't it be nice to receive a friendly invitation, to all G-men & women? To join the 30 Year Celebration without limitations, maybe even without the factory tour (500 vehicles x 2 occupants = 1000 heads) on the same day - think about the wait at the Schoekle track and all the broken hearts......

I'm working already on my name tag with party affiliation, POB and serial number

Karl

I'll be over there with the family at that time. I wonder if I can tour the factory with my boys ages 11, 14, 17 yrs? Or even drive the Shockl? If anyone in Europe wants to lend out or rent a 5 seater Gwagen for a couple weeks let me know. Trades possible

Tours of the factory are for groups only by reservation. There is a charge to do that; and it's in the several hundred Euro range, as I remember. Best time it so you can go with the 30th anniversary group.

Yes, the plan would be to do it with the 30th anniv group. I can't seem to discern whether it would be possible to bring 1-3 of my boys on the tour or if it is for adults only.
