Great Ouray & Moab G-Treffen 2006

We had a great time driving to the G-treffen 2006 in Ouray, CO and Moab, UT and playing in the sand & rocks.
Thank you Dutch, Tomo, Damon and Brent for you friendship - what a nice group of people, and they all drive a G-wagen!
We made it home in one piece - running just nice and cool even while climbing the Baker Grade towards Los Angeles on Interstate 15.

Yes, Brent our invention to cool the Mercedes 103 engine worked on all roads and trails we encountered for over 1200 miles - up or down, fast or slow!!!
We are looking for $$$$ investor to market this repair/mod selling it for $19.95 plus $6.50 shipping and handling.

Attached are the first two pictures from our adventure in Moab, the other few thousands will follow.....

G-Wagen - what a really great truck it is...

RE: Great Ouray & Moab G-Treffen 2006

Just go ahead and rub it in

I sure wanted to go. Timing was very bad with respect to work & I still need a job. Maybe next year. Certainly I'll be out in the deserts this fall and spring.

RE: Great Ouray & Moab G-Treffen 2006

Yes, the "pre-treffen" was lots of fun too.  Thanks so much Brent for taking time away from your busy schedule to lead us.  I know we really had to twist your arm to get you out there.  :^) ....I guess the real thanks should be going to your wife who was "minding the store" while you were out tromping around.

I'm sorry to have missed the guys that met in Ouray to head over to Moab.  My group was in no condition to be around the general public after a week camping out without showers!  We got back to camp in time to have dinner cooked and my awning deployed before the rains set in, so we ate a fair to middlin' Italian dinner and drank plenty of beers before finally deciding around 9:30 that the rain wasn't stopping and we'd best head for bed. I did make it back to Ouray about 9:30 on Friday morning and swung by the Matterhorn on my way through town, but you early birds had already bugged out.

Maybe next time!

Dave, it was a little bit of that white stuff that spooked them so early

Sweeeetttt! I loved that third picture Brent provided of the red G with the different colored mountain in the background.

Ah! Matterhorn Motel. I know where to stay when I decide one day to go to Ouray.

I thought we had the info out there I suppose with the forum switch and all, some of it may have been lost in the shuffle.

For next year I think the San Juans would be a great venue. Most of us have done Moab enough and most people that want to attend these things aren't up for the real axle busting trails anyway. If we do it here, we just have to plan it earlier, like before Labor Day if possible. If we based in Ouray it would make the trip family friendly to with a multitude of other activities. The scenery is great and there is an extremely challenging trail we can attempt for those who feel the need

There is an email list set up on Yahoo, I think it is called g-treffen. That is where most of the news and info was exchanged this summer. Sorry you missed it Garrett.

Yes, me too. I must say this is very disappointing. I hadn't seen a thing posted here. I guess I would have been expecting to see a sticky or something, rather than it being behind the scenes on another group. If this were a private treffen, I certianly can understand. I really was hoping to get at least one G-trip in, now that I'm home. Oh well, maybe I'll get to show off my new "G enhancements" next year.

Dave, As I speak Vail and Loveland pass are getting some pretty good snow; Loveland pass is closed! It looked like a fun time in and around Ouray.

RE: Great Ouray & Moab G-Treffen 2006

Alan,

don't feel too bad. I wanted to go as well, but had work commitments. I will be around Bishop/Mono lake area this coming weekend thru Tuesday though.

How about organizing a Death Valley G get-together in the fall?

Brent - 9/21/2006 3:00 PM Dave, it was a little bit of that white stuff that spooked them so early

Great picture Brent!  We had the same at South Mineral.  No snow in camp, but defininitely not more than 500' above us.  I guess that was the difference.  I was sitting out admiring the beauty with an extra cup of coffee before heading up the pass  while those guys were bugging out for warmer climes.

Those first dustings of snow sure are purdy.  I was hoping I'd get the sun to break through for a nice pic of snow and Aspens up around Ironton, but it wasn't to be.

A great trip all in all.

Re: Great Ouray & Moab G-Treffen 2006

Dutchh,

There's not much opportunity to get together with other G owners, and I just don't understand why it wasn't announced or discussed here in a reasonably visible way.

I did look at the threads you have listed. Only one of all the threads you referenced had a subject title that indicates the Treffen. It was posted 2 months prior to the event, had only one post, and was not stickied.

The one thread I participated in several months ago was not posted to discuss or announce the trip, it just happened to be mentioned somewhere in the body of the thread, plus the dates were not finalized.

The other two thread's titles don not appear to mention the Treffen anywhere in the thread title, and only have a couple references to the other G-group buried inside them. I can't read every post in every thread, I just don't have the time. Who does? I try to read the subject titles though and would likely have seen this if it had been reflected in the thread's title.

If there had been intent to spread the word on this pointedthree.com forum, I think there could have been at least one post here sometime near the event to get some visibility, and preferably stickied.

No big deal, just very disappointing, for several reasons.

Garret
