AsianML - 4/23/2006 6:14 PM How does it get cracked? hasn't happened to us yet. Must be the heat or stress or both. It was fine when I washed it and then I went out to apply wax and there it was!

Peeling and cracking on this part is very common. Also common: For them to come off. I have had the right side replaced due to peeling under warranty. Three years later it blew off going down the freeway. Replaced for free by dealer since they had "fixed" it. This morning got home from a short trip and the left one was barely hanging on! Great! I'm sure this won't be cheap to "fix" at the dealer! If anyone has a source, part #, brand name for an adhesive and has done this themselves I would appreciate it. Saw this on an older post looking for info on regluing mine. Might be helpful. Enter year, make, model, then search for "pillar molding". Less than $70.00. The plastic pillar on the left side of rear glass is cracked! I guess it's off for another one! http://www.parts.com/oemcatalog/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&si... Amazing I just found mine tonight right side with a crack right through the middle. Car was in Europe for many years and now back in Idaho ....no space in the garage so it has been out in freezing weather ...maybe that has something to do with it. Same one was replaced many years ago after it cracked as a detail person was pressing down a little to heavy handed when waxing the car. Mario

I looked at the back of my plastic "D" pillar and where the "glue" is supposed to contact the plastic someone had maybe scratched it a few times with a nail or ??? a few times on each of the four contact points. I would think that to get good adhesion you would need to rough it up really well with some 120 sandpaper to break the glaze or... Well, it did hold for almost eight years. Kind of like a General Motors product! I sure am getting a lot of ribbing from my buddies with Hondas and Fords about parts falling off my Benz! I think I'll leave it off a while longer just because.
