W 111 Ceramic Fuses

All of the fuses are the same length except for one shorter one that says "automatic starting aid." What exactly was the "automatic starting aid?" I wonder why that had to have the shorter fuse? Was this the "cold Start Solenoid" that some of the sedans had?

Yep. The ASA provides a richer starting mixture by means of a solenoid at the injection pump.

That said, I don't recall a nonstandard fuse for it in my 111, but it's been a few years now.

This one is about 1/2 as long as the others in the fusebox and has a special holder too. This 1964 220 S is not fuel injected.

I see an electrical connection to a part just under the carbs with a "ZENITH" trademark. This is a round part under the base of the air cleaner housing.

RE: W 111 Ceramic Fuses

Wouldn't that be a cold-start solenoid then?

Remember I have never touched a carbureted Merecedes...

Too bad Ron (GS) isn't around here lately, he would probably know.

Re: W 111 Ceramic Fuses

That's my guess, but I've never seen one like this. My old 62 never had it. It had the SOLEX carbs. It has brought back a lot of memories seeing this old car! Even the smells of the old leather are the same.

RE: W 111 Ceramic Fuses

I found a plastic case with three of these unique fuses in it. I guess they are a piece of history to hold on to. Or put on E-bay!
