| Mystery rear screen identification
Hello all,
I have this screen in my garage that I need to identify so that I can find a good home for it.

I was told it was a VW type 14 Ghia rear screen, but apparently it isn't. I am told the Ghia only had two bits of trim with two connecting pieces in the centre of the screen whereas this one has four bits of trim and four connectors near the corner (although one is missing).
The chrome is all there and reasonable - it would polish up ok, but with some pitting. One of the four trim clips is missing.
The screen is approx 134 cm long and 51 cm tall. On its side as it is, the front edge is 53 cm off the floor and the top edge is 12.5 cm off the floor.
The glass is marked 'Duro-Glas D-01/AS2' I have done a search on Google and established this could be original VW/Porsche glass, but not what it is out of. I have recently been informed it is probably from a Mercedes-Benz.
The four trim clips are set about 4-6 inches in from the corners and hold the four trim bits together (2 long radius curves and 2 shorter curves).
I got it from Germany from a body shop that converted a VW Type 34 to a convertible and therefore had a Type 34 heated rear screen to dispose of (some 10 years down the line) so I got the two together. I actually got it from the Type 34 owner rather than the shop, so he does not know what the other screen came from and my German isn't good enough to interrogate him further - all previous attempts have drawn a blank.
Can anyone identify it please?

This looks like the glass used in a 190 SL removable hardtop. Just my guess. It sat almost vertical. I'll do further checking. |

Without further information I couldn't verify the fit. The other possibility would be the rear window for the 220 S coupe, the ponton model. |
