Brake Pads

Does anyone know if the 1998-2000 G500 brake pads - both front and rear - are the same as those on the 2002+ G500? I want to give the Rotex Brake Pads a try, but the suppliers only list for the 2002+ G500. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

RE: Brake Pads

Hi Dutch,

while I cannot answer your question, you got me curious about these Rotex pads. I'm getting ready to replace the pads on my '03 and am looking for various sources for pads (possibly rotors too)

These folks have brakes and rotors for 2002+, which is why I asked my original question.

Re: Brake Pads

The 2000 model year is when Mecedes changed to the vented rotor on the front. If your truck has the vented rotors on the front then they are the same. I will have to check on the rear.

To find parts in a German website you might want to know you car's KBA number - the German DMV assigned # to a specific car/group - this G500 has the KBA# 0710 404

Actually, it was 1994.

Re: Brake Pads

Seems Rotex is made in Canada, but cannot find their address.
Dimensionally all front pads seem the same exept maybee G55.
Composition may be different for vented discs.

Re: Brake Pads

In my opinion they are hard. Softer compound pads wear faster but stop a bit better. Softer pads tend to be easier on the rotors. Texar are good pads. (OEM) There are other pads that have better 'feel' and firmer brake performance. With brake pads I would give up longevity for performance. I like softer pads and better braking. I would like to give the Pagid pads a try next. The earlier Disk/Drum G's need all the help they can get in the brake department. High performance pads should improve things in the G. The later trucks have some cross drilled rotors to chose from that might be better than OEM stock parts.
