For mine: pic 1: oddments tray has a tiny MP3 player that sits in the back and is controlled by my stereo. I drilled a hole in the top of the tray to allow the USB to fit through. Otherwise I keep this tray free and clear for my cell or other immediate use items. pic 2: I am running a two tank veg oil system and wanted to maintain the stock look of the dash. So I mounted the gauges to the front of the passenger seat box. The passenger cannot see these but they are easy to see for the driver. One for fuel, second for vacuum - which works on both the veg and diesel system. Not really a day to day need but will let me know if something isn't right or if my filter is clogging up. pic 3: GPS mounted with a simple suction cup and bendable arm to the windshield. I only use it when I am touring in the mountains so it isn't up all the time. My scanner sits in a vent mounted holder to the left of the wheel. It's a little tight but I don't come into contact with it. Scanner is only out when I am on logging roads.... which are pretty much all the roads around here. You want to be able to know where trucks are which announce the progress at certain checkpoints. Not much extra room when facing a rig loaded with logs flying down a single lane mountain switchback. A CB or two-way radio wouldn't work as there are several proprietary frequencies used in the area that I don't have access to. When the scanner is put away, the holder stays put but is out of the way. pic 4: Still not 100% on this one. Use a GMRS to communicate with friends traveling with me. Like to have it close enough to hear and operate without having to fiddle for it. I am often in and out of the truck so it has to be out of the way too. For now I am clipping it to my visor until I get a better idea.
Other notes: I keep a clean cab. No clutter. Just a few maps in the door pocket. The glove box has simply a multitool, binoculars, notepad and pencil. All emergency gear/tools are under the seats. Air pump and deflators go in the back on trips. And I usually take my recovery strap out and keep it handy too when roaming about.

Also, if you replace the speaker w/gauges, where are you thinking of moving the speaker? Edited by koly 3/12/2010 12:04 AM | ||
