This project was based on an ex-Bundeswehr G and has all the goodies like XP3 rear axle, high cabin mounts, Hutchinson 7,5 x16 wheels, front bumper and bull bar Canada version, PREINING roof rack for double cab... Imagine how many olives you could haul if it did not have the rear doors. With a front bench and a two door cab and chassis one could built a heck of an RV that could go any where....almost..... I wonder about the extra ten inch wheel base....but again with the right gears ,some icelanding surgery and 37-38 inch tires with a G55k under the hood it could be a fearsome steep terrain brute! The models being available not only in Europe and down under, but many other parts of the world are the following: 1. G 280 station wagon long wheelbase (5 or 6 doors) 2. G 300 van style long wheelbase (3 or 4 doors) 3. G 300 pickup extra long wheelbase (2 doors) As Luky pointed out earlier, there is a strong likelihood of a double cab extra long wheelbase being introduced soon. I assume due to our silly DOT rules here in the USA, this Austrian company cannot import these incredible vehicles into the USA?

MBUSA is bringing over the bluetec diesel engine in the W463 configuration. While the DOT laws are one reason these vehicles aren't imported here, other reasons include a combination of politics and $$$$$. As basic and functional as the 461 is, it falls below MBUSA's "luxury conscious" brand image. But with DTNA (the heads of Frieghtliner), the G300 is a perfect match and right at home. I will go as far as saying it falls perfectly within their mission statement.

Where have you seen confirmation that they're bringing over a Bluetec W463? PS--DTNA/Freightliner is just about 10min north of me in Portland. Edited by jeremyw 5/19/2010 11:38 PM

I am assuming that others have NOT sent letters yet. As of today, my correspondence with DTNA has been nothing but pleasant and very encouraging. The W460 is the old model. There are many still around today though production ended decades ago. The 461 has an almost similar exterior shell as the 460; however, the engine, frame, transmission, drivetrain components have been redesigned and upgraded. The interior has been updated, with an emphasis on being civil white still retaining utility and ruggedness. The 461 is to Mercedes as the Wrangler is to Jeep. Although the 461 was never intended for public consumption. At first, the product was limited to civilians in Switzerland. Those ended up selling and then MB decided to "test" the market by offering the 2009 G280 CDI Edition.Pur to celebrate the G's 30th birthday. Well those, too, surprised MB and sold out. Then MB decided to expand it's offering to the UK in RHD as well as continuing to offer LHD in Germany. Needless to say, these vehicles are becoming popular overseas, sell very well enough to bring in a good sum of $$ for DBAG. Militaries trust the performance abilities of the 461 and have set enough demand to justify the 461 to be produced through 2015. Regarding the bluetec 463, a press release by Mercedes Benz was issued during the first week of March 2010, showing a G350 Bluetec version. Fairly recently, a few of the members on this forum have received phone calls from the heads of MBUSA requesting feedback from potential buyers on what they want in the diesel version. Here's the thread: http://pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=16394&posts=... Cheers! Edited by BrentG500 5/20/2010 1:04 AM

Anyone on here lucky enough to have a civilian 461? Thanks for the education Brent! PS--I emailed my contact (SAR president) at Daimler about who to speak to there.
