RE: Announcement and Invite: G-Treffen 2010

Mike,

Just to make certain that you have my RSVP correct, it is just the two of us. I sent $$ for 2 people only. The couple locally (Rob and MaryAnn - the wedding folks from last year) will be out of the area.

Also, no word from other local owner.

So, just two Schumachers (Tom and TJ) "TnT"

Things to do at the at Philomath (Dai thinks it means "love of math") Heights.

Some of us will want to do a long hike, sit on the bumper and cook (Karl's speciality). As Harald notes, we are all eager to see what the Karlmeister will bring along in the way of neat gear - a spare roof rack perhaps??

Tom,

just try to get some advances of your Taschengeld and we have another DIY story to post:

"DIY How to remove a perfectly good roof rack from one G-wagen to Tom's beautiful W460 using your own hand tools"

Karl

Well, I hope it will still fit in the garage after you mount the roof rack, or it won't be an off road vehicle anymore.

perhaps you can bring Eric D's 300GD since he's going to be in Germany

Eric MOST graciously offered it to me to bring down but I will only be able to stay on Sat for a few hours as I have Search&Rescue training up in Portland Sat night. TonyC is bringing the camo beast down.

Which leads me to....I drove EricD's awesome green TDi DoKa yesterday and fell in love with it's power to weight ratio (his OM617A GDT doesn't have the same torque I'm looking for--although it does have a stock IP). Is anyone coming to the GTG with a OM606A conversion? I've been told by Eric to check out Krash's 350GDT conversion but I assume it has a LOT more pep than an OM606A 3.0DT?

Thanks all!!

OT:
Jeremy, the TDI Doka Jagdwagen drives really nice, as does a Gwagen with a direct injection diesel motor. The big advantage in the 300GD and 300 GDT are the simplicity and fully mechanical nature of the drivetrain that makes it an ideal backcoutry vehicle. Eric D will tell you, as he has me, that his 300GDT is the most reliable car he has driven. That is saying alot given the number of cars he has owned and his mechanical skills. The naturally aspirated 300GD is even more simple and by design more bulletproof, but has even less in the HP department for driving up hills or touring in the mountains. A performance tuned GDT would be nice, but a used G500 out of the box is a pretty easy option if your budget allows it. End OT.

Re: Announcement and Invite: G-Treffen 2010

Pottie confirmed for Thurs delivery
Beer Keg Ordered
Food enroute

It's going to be epic!

Just FYI, confirmation that the fabulous Corvallis Local Farmer's Organic Market will be open Saturday morning, downtown behind the main strip of stores along the beautiful Williamette River.

If you plan to go, go early for the best goods and be back to the farm by 10am for the G offroad rally!

And for you out-of-towners, the river is pronounced "Will-aeh-mitt" not "Will-uh-mett-ee."

Ok, as the unofficial enunciation translator, that would be Phil-low-muth for $100 Alex.

Awesome. I've got 1 out of 2 so far.

Funny you should mention Willamette. I was just corrected a few days ago.

Great meeting you Jeremy. I'm glad you got a chance to drive a G on Saturday. Did you ever get a chance to drive a LWB while you were there?

It was terrific meeting you Steve. What an incredible group it is---EVERYONE is so down-to-earth, friendly, helpful.
I'm glad I got to drive Tony's SWB. The route up the powerline trail in 2WD boggled my mind. The G went up effortlessly.
I didn't get a chance to drive a LWB W460 but imagine it's not too different overall from a SWB, except a bit more weight. I did take a ride in Krash's monster--wow, 606A here I come. I would have liked to ridden in Craig's 603A but didn't get the chance to this time around. He's local to me so hopefully I can meet up with him.

I look forward to next time!

PS--What engine does Minh have in his W463 again? OM603A, OM603D35A?

RE: Announcement and Invite: G-Treffen 2010

Steve,

Thank goodness Karl was attentive, and found the signed Overland J. that I left of his table next to his wonderful chuck wagon. Anyway, Karl saved the collector's item that you signed. This little item will put the grandchildren (still have none) though Harvard!!

Yes, what a great group of people, Steve. Nice to see your family having a great time. Great kids and life-partner!!

Cheers!

Tom
