I don't think they striped it down, its just that the pictures were posted from finished product and going backwards to the first body picture...

Yeah but I meant, who did that to a sweet old 190SL!

They always look better without bumpers.

RE: 1957 Pro Street 190

There is a great story about a 190 SLR in this month's Road&Track. Quite a story.

RE: 1957 Pro Street 190

Back in college ('80's) when 190SL's were nearly worthless, I helped to do a really clean 302/toploader 4sp conversion. Car looked absolutely stock and was completely transformed as a driver. No doubt by now someone has converted it back as the values skyrocketed...

Re: 1957 Pro Street 190

How much would a very rough 190SL be worth. There is an old man in my old childhood neighbourhood who has had one parked infront of a lower income home in a fairly rough neighbourhood here in Toronto. It is red with a black roof and complete. I remember walking by it when I was 12yrs old. I am now 41 and the thing has not moved an inch. I want to knock on the door and inquire but there are signs up everywhere saying do not disturb. I would imagine he is in his early 90's by now.

Subjective I know but any ball park guess would be a great starting point.

Hasn't moved?  Is it rusted?  We need photos!

Sounds like a parts car frankly.

Re: 1957 Pro Street 190

The hoods were made of aluminum, so it's probably okay! The clocks were the windup type and mounted throgh the glovebox door -would run for 7 days on a full wind. I found a wreck once and bought the clock for $10. Sold it for $200 sight unseen back in the 80's. No telling what it would be worth today.
