Iceland 2010

My G wagen is for work and pleasure. Actually, my job is fun! (sometimes)
Here are some pics of our iceland trip.
The tools were a G270cdi with some extras and a Nikon D2x.

Nice !!!! I'm very jealous ...

How many time did it take you from belgium to iceland and back, 3weeks ?

Did you drive to Denmark to take the boat ?

RE: Iceland 2010

thx for all the nice replies.
We were away for a month. we drove from belgium to the north of denmark, then 50 hours on the ship (norröna, Smyrill lines) to arrive in the east of Iceland. We had 22 days in iceland before return.
We drove about 4000 km in Iceland.
Can't wait to get back....

Re: Iceland 2010

Wow; Iceland is definitely on my to do list.

I would be very interested in a schedule or planning would you happen to have one.

I remember also at the height of the explosions of the vulcano in Iceland a twopage picture in the Knack (Belgian magazine like Time or Der Spiegel) where you could cleary make out a green G-class at the forefront of the explosions together with other 4x4's (I'll look it up and try to scan it).

RE: Iceland 2010

I can give you a list of what I thought were highlights and very very beautiful tracks.
But you zig zag from east to west and back east. Go with the flow, don't hurry, follow the good weather and stay of the main tracks.
If you are really planning this trip, contact me for maps, gps maps and coördinates.
You can go everywhere in Iceland (in summer) with a standard G, good tyres, and a garmin gps that is capable of displaying topo maps.
You really don't need anything else...travel light!

Re: Iceland 2010

Fabulous photos!!

My wife and I spent two weeks in Iceland in a rented diesel Landcruiser about six years ago. It was, by far, the best adventure I've been on yet. A little known fact, If you fly Iceland air from eastern US to London (maybe other European destination as well), it will have a layover in Reykjavic. The beauty of this little layover is, you can make it several days or weeks long for no additional cost. Then rent a diesel Lancruiser from the air port and wham-o, you off on an unforgettable adventure. The only hitch is since you have to fly, you'll need to pack as if you were backpacking instead of car camping. But there are stores a plenty there to purchase supplies.
