That sand looks like it benefited from the recent rain

Looks like you had a good time.

Re: Good mornin' America...

RAICAR,

I was wondering if you have any info on that trailer being towed. It looks to be a neat design and I would be interested to know more about it. Thanks.

Re: Good mornin' America...

Hi Phil,

the trailer is my camper - that's why picture #1 shows the Moroccan sunrise triangular. I use it for sleeping, cooking and transporting things. It's a little bit on the heavy side with 700 kg (comparable to the weight of a FIAT 500!) - empty - not loaded - just as is. Thus it's a reliable and sturdy construction. In sandy conditions my OM602A engine was sort of struggling with the pure weight - that's the reason, why the trailer had to be salvaged - I didn't succeed pulling it on top of the dune...the trailer was originally used by the Danish armed forces and was sold out to the public during the last couple of years.

Re: Good mornin' America...

Raicar,

Thanks for the info. I figured it was a camper as well. It looks like it is well made and as heavy as you say!! I would be interested in seeing how it all sets up for sleeping, cooking, etc... You gotta love military equipment. Great pictures and best of luck with the trip.

Re: Good mornin' America...

Hi Mark,

our highest bivouac was at 2700m above sea level. At night the softtop of the camper was freezing - whereas during daytime tempratures were around 30 degrees Celsius. The trailer still needs some work, a waterreservoir, etc...will come up with photos, when finished.

RE: Good mornin' America...

This must have been your truck that I was admiring in Graz last year. I recall Mr Pagger saying that he had recently finished the build on it. Since I hardly speak any German, and his English was not flowing well, our conversation was very brief, otherwise I would have liked to hear quite a bit more about it. Maybe you can tell us what the history is on the basis truck, and how was it done. It would be a very interesting read. I think the trailer was Danish army, but he couldn't speak Danish with me either . Now maybe here is a second chance to get the info.

Re: Good mornin' America...

Sorry, I missed the bit where you said the trailer was Danish army. I know the Danish army Gwagens also had the soft doors, so perhaps that is the origin of the truck as well?

Re: Good mornin' America...

God eftermiddag Eric,

a pitty we misssed each other in Graz - we had a good time together with Roly and the brits! The desert tan Wolf 250 started his carrer doing the military service at the "Luftwaffe" in Klosterlechfeld - it's a so called "Luftlandeversion". It was auctioned 1996 by VEBEG after an offset-crash. I started to improve it in 1997 - touching nearly every part. The most important changes are as follows: Engine OM 602 A 25 with mechanically operated injection, OEM cooling package for tropical regions, TSH-intercooler, OEM G 250 automatic transmission, PTO-winch (special thx. to twodogs & Monsieur Berkmiller!), convertible softop for low rollbar, softop doors, high doorsteps, OEM "Schlechtwege Paket", SÜDRAD 7 X 16 (from the late english PINZ) rims with 255/85 BFG MT tires, 460 luxury interior package (dashboard brown & desert), rev counter, radio and CD changer all 24V, seats out of the later 290 Turbodiesel with seat heating and armrests, fold down sideward facing 463 seats in the trunk, all seats with OEM fabric in dade - grey checkered, green tinted windows, RINGFEDER NATO trailer hitch with 12 Volt & 24 Volt output for trailers, INOX exhaust with particle filter, many visible exterior parts are made of INOX and black plastic coated...

Vi ses, raicar

RE: Good mornin' America...

Moin Harald,

the high doorsteps come together with the removable doors. My guess is: This is to stabilize the statics of the body and to improve the safety in the case of a side impact. Most of the G's which are intended to be driven without the doors within the EC have this feature:

Very interesting vehicle raicar, looks totally at home in the desert, I think I've found the perfect colour for a future dream project.

Please let me know if you are ever bored with it!

RE: Good mornin' America...

Hi Huss,

I just play with OEM parts and DB settings. The engine has 126hp, which is the stock power output of the OM 602 A 25 engine. That's sufficient for my sort of adventures. Springs and dampers are stock as well coming from the SWISS army G 230. Thus the Wolf is a little bit higher (4-5 centimeters) and still offers much more comfort then it had as "Luftlandeversion". Initially it had a way to stiff setup for me. As I said I rely on the work the engineers at Daimler did when developping different setups for the G. I can't really comment on Bilstein's, Koni's, FOX's and portals.

RE: Good mornin' America...

i guess all these upgrades that are not mb parts are bit of a money spin.... out the box the g is a very capable machine with the right type of tire for the occaion. i have just finished my 79 project. and i have kept the original suspension. no vibrations etc.. i would like to compare it with my ex cabrio and see if it was really worth the extra money inversted.

btw, i kept with 33x10.50x15 silverstone mt's on 7.5 attiks. looks cool and should do well now we have strong rain here in cyprus.

your G really is great ! would love to see more pics of it if possible
