Kimberley Karavan on the G

I finally got around to wiring the G for an electronic brake controller for the Kimberley Karavan, since the karavan has Carlisle electric over hydraulic disc brakes. I also had to craft a cable to go from the 13-pin trailer plug on the G to the 7-pin plug on the karavan.

All done, so I took it out for the first time behind the G. Pulls well, although it knocks the fuel consumption from 14-15 mpg to about 10 mpg. Arrggghhhh! It's going to be an expensive ride out to UT and AZ this Fall. The Karavan Mirrors make a major improvement in the rear sight lines!

I included a shot of the Australiam McHitch Off Road Trailer hitch. Those Aussies definitely know how to engineer products for off road use!

(Karl, Do you recognize the license tag?)

This is the second one in the US. If you want to see more photos, there are some in the bottom two+ rows of this gallery:

MB vs KK Trackwidth

thebigblue - 7/1/2013 3:27 PM

Close, but not exact.

MB has a track width of 59.5" or 151 cm to the center line of the tires. MB tires have an 8" or 20 cm wide footprint. This is with ET63 wheels. US ET43 wheels would bring it a lot closer.

KK has a 62" or 158 cm track width to the center line of the tires. KK tires have a 9" or 23 cm wide footprint.

RE: Kimberley Karavan on the G

That's a serious-business trailer man!
Looks comfy.

Must be a lot easier to deal with the rigid body than the canvas-sided version. I'm assuming set-up and breakdown is a little more convenient, yes?

Not a "little more", but a LOT more.

Me, too; although it will probably have to wait until Sept in UT and AZ.

Here in Georgia we received more rain through the middle of June that we did in all of 2012. As a result, I've been considering trying to find a dealer who would accept the karavan as a trade-in on an ark.

RE: Kimberley Karavan on the G

Apart from the Kimberley and UEV there´s the new Spinifex pop-top option (they also makes some real nice off-road caravans):

From the looks of the models, they have to be very expensive!
