The probem have incurred a few times and starts with the cars engine stops and the varning "transfer case in neutal" shows. when i have pulled at the cables to the TC th problem have disappeared but now it is constant. I have changed the cables between the TC and the controlbox and allso the grownd cabla that was rusted away. how do I find the problem can Mercedes se if the controlbox for the TC is ok or if the problem is in the electric motor in the TC? Why do you need to program the control box and the electric motor in the TC after a change.

Just like adding a new shifter motor, it needs to recognized once again. Seems it's the simplest option at the moment. After that, it could be the motor or the control module. Best of luck NHD

I believe it can be done, by holding down the shift button a bit longer than necessary, for both modes HI & LOW. The replacement of that short harness, between the shift motor and the control unit, eliminated my TC problems. Most the time it is a CAN bus communication error (bad connections), and concerned owners start replacing the shift motor and/or the TC control unit....for nothing. Karl
