Mine were the older factory Star wheel which looked similar to the original 460 alloy. There is a 16" version of the Ashtaroth wheel that also works A-OK on the 463's until they increased the diameter of the rotor on later 463's.

I drive my 2014 G550 with Atik and 265/75R16 Bridgestone Revo 3, excellent, better overall feel and behavior than eg 275/65R18 or 255/70R18, both 32.1” diameter. From what I have seen, 2015 models for sure and I would say up to 2018 have the same brakes, so 16” Atik should work all the way to the last year of the former G non AMG models.

So you have a 2014 550, which is essentially same spec as the 2013+ but With the engine change to the 550 twin turbo, I'm wondering if the brakes also got changed. 16" wheels would be so good. I am researching for a friend who is seriously looking to buy a 2016-18 and will use it for camping, back country, etc.

I am researching for a friend who is seriously looking to buy a 2016-18 and will use it for camping, back country, etc. The 2013 to 2015 G550 have the M273 V8, 5.5l naturally aspirated. The switch to dual turbo V8 occurred in model year 2016 until 2018. You can see it because 2016-2018 G550 have the "ugly" bumper and front radiators that AMG models have had since 2013. From what I have seen on several 2016-2018 G550's, brakes appear to not have changed from 2013 to 2018, so 16" wheels should work. Based on many conversations with several Mercedes techs, I would recommend against getting the turbo engine. I witnessed first hand many twin turbo engines wide open for deep repairs on GL's, S class. Personally I would absolutely stay with the non turbo, up to year 2015. The M273 is recognized by experienced Mercedes techs as their close second most reliable V8, the M113 being first (5l, 3 valves/ cylinder, on MBUSA G's in from model year 2002 to ~model year 2007). I have experience with both engines too, and can attest to their reliability --if maintained of course.

I'm sure someone will say that engine is "fine" etc, but my gut feeling was that the naturally aspirated engines are generally more issue free. I can't recall if there are any worthwhile changes from the G550 right before that, say 2013-2015. My friend mentioned there might have been an interior change but I was thinking that was made before 2013 anyway. So all you really have it maybe the towing assist or some minor tech stuff.
