throttle position sensor

Guys,

I experienced the issue of accelerating quickly only to have RPM spike without transmission kickdown. I searched and found that others had experienced this problem and determined it to be the TPS out of adjustment. Long story longer, I took it to my Indy mechanic to have the TPS and cable replaced as preventative maintenance. Only now the problem with kickdown is worse. I took it back and showed him that bar on base of accelerator pedal was not making contact with the kickdown button. He told me there was no more adjustment to the cable and instead glued a shim to the top of the kickdown button.

Looking at it today I am wondering if he installed the bar "cable shroud" on the base of the accelerator upside down? Please look at the picture (yellow arrow pointing to bar position. Yellow circle shows "shim" Does your accelerator look the same?

In event it is upside down how hard is it to change position. I am a little leary of taking it back to mechanic and may try and perform repair myself

Thanks
G4me

Eric

Thank you. I really appreciate the effort for the picture and post. The search begins. Maybe it is wrong cable or installed incorrectly. I will look this weekend.

RE: throttle position sensor

I checked TPS and I have alot of slack in the cable at the TPS. Can someone please share WIS adjustment procedure for TPS cable and foot pedal. Thank you. I did a search but cannot find it.

Re: throttle position sensor

Do you have the spring on the TPS?

RE: throttle position sensor

Yes. Actually I adjusted by eye yesterday. The nut under the TSP at about halfway threaded out and then used star wheel under pedal to take up slack in cable. Confirmed that when depressing the pedal down to the kickdown button the TSP rotates to the limit and hits the stop. Drives well and kicks down. So I think I have it adjusted correctly or at least close. Still not satisfied with pedal height but I don't see how the cable makes that much difference due to the pivot. Shortening the cable pulls the base of the pedal away from the button and lengthening the cable to the full extent even with alot of slack did not allow pedal to hit button cleanly.

Thanks again for all the advice
