Re: G500 brake calipers

Why not repair or rebuild the original? What exactly is going on with it?

I ruined one of the vents
can't be repaired
all I could do is block it completely
it is the upper vent

used calipers seem super rare

Can you post some pictures of the issues?
I have been told that the G500 caliper is the same as the 460 caliper with a spacer in between to accommodate the vented disc.
It may be possible to repair your caliper by rebuilding with a 460 donor portion.

Re: G500 brake calipers

I have a pair of these 460 Perrot calipers. Would you be able to use half or all of one of them to repair yours?

This is true I made a pair of vented G500 calipers using the spacer and the 460 caliper. When you take it apart watch out for the small washers inset into the spacers.

Re: G500 brake calipers

stupid me - I have 460 calipers in the garage.
I checked
almost the same
the 463 uses a14mm spacer in between the 2 halves

same problem as on the 463 - the upper nipple on the left is frozen
I ruined the 463 by twisting it off, the re-drilling for larger size and ruining the seat of the valve

guess, I will bath this one as long as it takes to free it
I have more time than money

the calipers are Perrot and the 463 are not - but I'll find a solution

thanks Eric!

Re: G500 brake calipers

looking good!

I found a source for brand new calipers
only $220
most offers for used calipers is around $600

rebuild kits range from complete and affordable at $35
https://www.ebay.com/itm/283934329572?_ul=MX&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=...

to bare minimum at $65
http://fourbyfourclub.com/W463Brakes/W463CaliperKit.htm

now the adventure to get the stuff to Mexico

Re: G500 brake calipers

Sounds good Harald!
Please follow up on whether you are able to rebuild your caliper with the 460 parts.
Also, if you buy the new cheap one, it would be good to know if they are the real deal and a good buy.

Re: G500 brake calipers

conversion from 460 caliper to 463 caliper is coming along smoothly

the spacers of the 463 caliper need to be moved over to the 460 caliper
along with it the 11.9 grade bolts (they are longer)

image below shows the spacer between the 2 halves
only the seat for the O-ring is precision machined

Re: G500 brake calipers

back to square one - the conversion is not possible

the 463 vented disks are too big for the 460 caliper

pics will follow

I either have to make the original calipers work without the upper vent
or find a way to get the inexpensive calipers from Germany

Well that is disappointing!
Do you have a link for the less expensive calipers?

Re: G500 brake calipers

Odd that you were not able to get them to work. When I did mine, about 10 years ago they worked perfectly.
