Vibration

I have been getting a vibration/rattle sound coming from the driver front area.

To me it sounds like a manifold/exhaust leak.

It occurs during light acceleration when climbing a grade.

I have questioned it a few times at the dealer but they say the manifold is fine.

It seems to be getting worse.

The heat shields seem tight.

Any ideas what this could be?

Re: Vibration

THe heat shield behind you that is the one visible from the outside on the exhaust near the exit did this to me on both '02's. It was replace with a different mounting system in '04 by the dealer and this annoying noise stopped.

Re: Vibration

Thanks Marco,

I had the heatshield update a couple of years ago.

I checked the shields - looks ok.

How about the joint where the manifold meets the muffler or the manifold gasket? Has this been a weak area?

Do the dealers have a way of pressure testing exhaust systems to find leaks?

Also, the problem was most evident climbing elevations at slow speed at roughly 10,000 feet.

RE: Vibration

Check out the hangers for the exhaust. I had a hanger that holds it in place break and it was essentially rattling near where it was supposed to be, but broken for sure. I think someone else with a 2002 has had the hangers break also.
