Tell me about this beastie, I know next to nothing!

Hydro suspension? Huge consumption and hard to find parts?

Expensive to purchase?

Air suspension.  Parts easy to find, high consumption.  Expensive if in nice condition.

300SEL 6.3 - Seattle

I have one and it's something else. I'm considering selling. New house, job, one kid in college and another one on her way in year. It's stored a couple miles away and out of the wind, rain, elements. I just don't get to do her justice. She's not a "show car" but she's way better than the $6,000 ebay specials you see on occasion. PM me if you have any interest. Paint and interior we done about 6 years ago. Gold/Tobacco. I have a photo link. Let me know.

Ciao for now,

Re: 300SEL 6.3

I had a concourse condition 6.3 as my wedding car, still good mates with the owner. When new they were the most expensive car available in Australia.

Fuel consumption is closer to the 10-11 mpg for an original example. Power is strong and usable, however differentials were prone to failure as were the air bags.

Replace driveshaft flex-coupling every 6,000 miles or else!

RE: 300SEL 6.3

Gentle Readers:  by "air bags" he is of course referring
to components of the
6.3's air suspension, not a SRS

RE: 300SEL 6.3

^^^ Nice photos. I must admit, the 6.3 was always one of the more-intimidating-looking engines I ever saw.

Along with the old Jaguar V-12...

Re: 300SEL 6.3

I had a gray 1972 for a long weekend. I drove 162 miles and used a tank and a half of high test. That was in 1986. I can still feel the G forces at acceleration. What a great engine!
