RE: i want a S500

Good:

It's a W140
5L V8 POWER!!!!!!
Get things like closing assist and other cool gadgets
Exellent ride quality
Exellent build quality

The Bad:
Teh V8 drinks the gas
Maintence is a PITA on these cars, thats the only real drawback there are so many things and even though not that many go wrong if something does it'll most likely be big, for example the wing mirrors are something like 700US each, the fan speed regulator is about 300 bucks for a little plastic resistor thingi. etc. You get what I mean.

yea, NZ Benz basically got it right. It is an awesome car, and is really great as long as it is in good condition, and maintained well. Repairs are probably about the same, or maybe more as those on you're W124, but overall, it is a really great car, and I'm sure you would enjoy having one.

You should try to go for a 1997-1999 S500. Those are the best. Plus, they have cooler features standard, like side airbags and '97-'99 taillights.

There is only good and bad on the W140. Ugly does not exist when talking about these cars. hehe.

Re: i want a S500

In my experience the 140 is way more expensive to maintain than my 124. Great cars the 140 no doubt. I did 3000kms in my G Wagon then jumped into my S500 to go for a blast around the block. It was great
But then my S500 has been lowered 70mm and has a three inch exhaust...

RE: i want a S500

The dash design of the w140 is the least attractive in any Mercedes-Benz ever constructed. The porportions are all wrong and the "center" console is off-centered-- cantilevered if you will. It throws off the entire symmetry of the dash/console area and bothers me more and more every time I look at the otherwise very nice interior of the w140.

There are quite a few questionable design decisions on these cars. But that isn't the only shortcoming of the model series-- Have your Husband/SO/Boyfriend, whomever will be doing the wrenching take a look at a complete wiring diagram and if he/she/they can make heads or tails of it, that should make your decision for you. This is NOT a car you want to be taking to the dealership for servicing.

Finally-- There is a reason you can pick up a low mileage example of this $60k+ vehicle for under seven grand.

Well, well well, look who came down from on high to mingle with the material men and girl, here to exclaim the virtues of smaller cars v's the W140? Take your naysaying elsewhere.

Re: i want a S500

wow I see things are nasty here since I left ha ha ha....

Anyway go for the S500. The 320s are nice but the V8s are better. The V12s are expensive to mantain. The best bet is a '97 up S500.

I think you reveal exactly how little you know about the car itself. It is true there are some design flaws but no more than any other MB look at te early 126 and 220 and see the problems they possess or did you decide to just turn up and slaq off the W140 for the fun of it. Also with rerards to being ugly thats pretty selective too, I've seen pictures of your car and I keep my opinions about the visual impact to myself because unlike you I seem to realise the beauty is in the eye of the beholder not "this is what I think about how things look and it's the truth because I say it is, backed up by my half assed and unemployable arts degree".

Excuse me?

The only thing I said was that the dash is badly designed and that Monica needs to look at an electrical diagram before she makes any kind of decision. She asked for the good, the bad and the ugly-- I replied with useful information.

Calm down and stop pretending this is an insult to your person-- you are not your car.

Return the chip to your shoulder where it belongs and stop attacking me! I made absolutely no off-color remarks about you, and I demand an apology. If you knew half of what you assume I don't, you would not be speaking to me as you have.

You'd be well served, Sir, to to focus the energies you've applied to questioning my character, intellect and academic achievements to your own. Such mindless fodder as you've seen fit to post isn't worthy of the gentleman you pretend to be; simply by driving a Mercedes-Benz automobile.

Kiss my ass neon. Your the one with the chip on your shoulder with your complaining and self lothing, kind of like that job at Tacobell or whereever that you were too good to take last year, I don't pretend to be a gentleman, I am brash and honest as much as possible in the hope that through telling it like it is people know that I have no agenda. Your the one with the chip on your shoulder with your sense of some kind of higher evolution from the average person.

Sleeping, bad internet connection, repairing my W126, getting a rental car, having a horrible time with life...... Sorry. I'll try to visit more often, and mod this forum like I used to.

It's alright. The W140 has been awesome recently, but the W126 has been giving me problem after another. First it was tires, then it was overheating, and now it is having transmission issues. I had to rent a car, but at least I got a Volvo. A Silver S40 with leather. I'll take pictures of it just so we can get off topic, and have some fun.
