whats up with the VOLVO?? didnt they have any more Benzs on the rental lot.....? :o

I rented it from a car rental place, not an MB dealer, so they did not have any benzes, the best car they had was a Volvo, IMO. They had the Ford Taurus, Chevy Malibu, Chrysler 300, Chevy Impala, and other junk American cars, but they were all cloth, and they were all boring cars.

I think the 300C is a cool looking car, the interior is...ok but still a cool car not many of them here either.

yea, a very big car for the money. Not too bad I guess, but the one they had was not even a 300C, it was a 300, the lowest spec of all, with cloth interior....

LOL. That's all they advertise here as well. Who advertises the lowest spec? But the stock 300 is pretty sad. The 300C isn't bad. It looks like a pretty cool car when it is modded up too.

exactly. I'd bet that's pretty cheap though. It would be very interesting if they offered such a car in the U.S. It would probably fail though. It's just like the 600 SEL with cloth. Remember?

RE: i want a S500

Okay, everyone knows I'm not crazy about the console-dash configuration of the 140.

BUT.  The instrument panel is the best I've ever seen in any car, ever.  It's my very favorite!

AND.  The front end of the car is about the best too.  Straightforward, no-nonsense.  Me likes!

AND.  Wow that V-12 looks hot.

Well, if you like that instrument panel, you should also like the re-designed interior from the 1997-1999 Mercedes W140's. This particular model is a Euro 1998 S600, which has the euro radio/CD Player put in in 1998/1999 for Europe.

That wood steering wheel is nice, and the blue interior isn't actually all that bad. Not many cars are able to pull off a blue interior like that.

yea, that is very true, although I doubt any of us will ever see a car like that in the U.S. That is a Euro, with Euro options.

RE: i want a S500

ya know, it's amazing that there are any S600s in Europe at all, with their fuel prices!

I'm so used to seeing small-displacement models there like S280s and E230s etc etc.

Which I like, mind you

you have a very valid point there. Although, I'm sure these rare cars are owned by people who barely use their S600's. Most likely a weekend car, if anything. But yeah, you are definitely right about it being interesting that there are S600's in Europe.

That's beautiful S500!! What kind S-Class is that? Looks like a designo, but I don't think they were available back then, or just really rare.

Well, if you can afford a car in Europe with their crazy taxes and all, I don't think gas is a problem at all.

Well, it wasn't really called a Designo, but if you were a European Customer, you could special order basically whatever you wanted for your S-Klasse. For a price of course, you could get yourself an S280, S320, S350, S420, or S500, with all the S600 features for it, such as the two tone Nappa leather seats, wood/leather shift knob, wood steering wheel, hand-stitched leather, fridge, etc. Very few special order cars were made up to this spec, but it was available for European Buyers. The W140 above also has the very rare, Calypso Wood, which was not offered for US or Canada.

MBCA offered a similar option to the Europeans, where you could buy an S500 "Presidential Edition", which had S600 features on it, such as hand-stitched leather, wood steering wheel, wood/leather shift knob, etc. But no insane Euro options like a fridge, tray tables, etc., but it was much better than the options MBNA had, where if you wanted S600 features, you had to buy an S600.
