Very nice, although there's way more electronics on it than are really needed, imnsho. I'll probably order one tomorrow to replace the daily driver Honda Odyssey minivan with a minivan on steroids. My biggest concern after the glut of electronics is the availablity of ULSD fuel. (Does that mean I have to resign as Host/Mod of the G-Class Forum?)

Very nice, although there's way more electronics on it than are really needed, imnsho. Dutch, I also have an 05 ML350. It is the most trouble free car we have ever owned. In 2 years, it has been to the dealer only one time. I have had no quality complaints. Fit and finish - perfect. In 05 it was at the end of its product life, so I expected it to be trouble free. ML's are great "beater cars". It is a hassle free car. It is a whole lot easier to own than the G. The G has required way to much patience with MBUSA and the dealer. To spend that much money on a G and get all those problems really makes you think. The G is special and requires patience of a parent with a problem child.

I've been driving a G for 22 continuous years. No reason to change now.

I haven't driven the GL yet but the ML has no sole. I'm sure either would be more practical for most in day-2-day driving. I suspect I'll still be driving a G 20+ years from now.

Maybe it's just your 03. I have been driving my 460 daily for over 10 years, it has 280,000 on this motor and it has not been anywhere near a problem child. Easy to work on, no problem getting parts I only wish I could replace it with a 461 and I would not hesitate to drive it a 500 mile from home to go skiing. It has never left me anywhere stuck Just my thoughts W

I haven't driven the GL yet but the ML has no sole. Agreed on the "no soul" for the ML - especially when compared to the G; but I expect it will make a respectible daily driver. I plan to find out. Keep in mind that I'm replacing a minivan (Honda Odyssey) with a minivan on steroids - the ML.

Many complaints about downshifting. How was your experience with it? (We too are considering replacing another vehicle with the ML320 CDI) In the brief test drive I took, I did not experience any problems. An MB mechanic friend of mine says that the problems have been most software related; and the latest software upgrade has fixed the problems. True? I imagine that I'll find out when I get mine.
