Cold Weather Issues..!!

With the recent snow storm and cold temperature in 20s, I am experiencing following problems with ML...

1. Loud shriek from engine area bay during cold early morning startup

2. Malfuncation message "Check Coolant Level", during cold early morning startup. This message goes away after the subsequent startups during the day.

I was under the impression the Coolant is not supposed to be change for 15 years... !!

Have anyone exprienced similar issues... I have a appointment with the Dealer for the checkup, lets see what he has to say...!!

RE: Cold Weather Issues..!!

Dude, was your ML subject to the "recall" lately?

Sure sounds like it. Cold-weather start is one focus of it. I'll get you the code in a minute.

Also, that damned MFD can be annoying as hell, can't it. You can't even trust what it tells you

---------------------------------------

Edit: Found the letter, and it doesn't include the ML among the affected models. Isn't it the same 350 V-6 engine as the E350?

Anyway, quoting: "DCAG has determined that the software for the engine control unit needs to be upgraded to correct a potential malfunction which could lead to an incorrect fuel/air mixture during low outside temperatures. Under certain conditions, this can have a negative effect in starting the engine."  The "Service Campaign" number is 2006-110002.

But I guess (and your service advisor will doubtless confirm) that your ML isn't affected...

^^^ Thanks for the info..

I will surely mention this E-Class Service Campaign/recall to SA, and find out whether it also applies to ML..

Re: Cold Weather Issues..!!

Well... the car is in for the service for following issues:

1. Hard suspension.. loud thud noises from suspension
2. Check Coolant Level Message
3. Loud Squeak from the engine bay during cold morning startups
4. Wind noise from the driver side door
5. Fuel guage dies from time to time... Works fine with Shell Gas and dies with Mobil Gas consistently all the time

Update from SA:

1. Suspension will be changed, they have ordered parts and will not be in till next week

Will keep you all updated with the progress and status.

Re: Cold Weather Issues..!!

I got that Top up Coolant level message too. Only seems to happen when it is cold outside.

I am ignoring it until I get the thing serviced in another 5k.

No other problems though.

RE: Cold Weather Issues..!!

Ah.....cold weather.......that's when all the gremlins come out..l've had the rear clunking noise for about a month now in the rear...Especially under full compression like going over a speed bump...l'm sure its the shocks...But it tends to be temperature sensitive...The odd noises, which tend to happen in the instrument cluster when the heater is on ????? When l'm travelling over a bumpy road my rear passenger window vibrates and resonates...Again, all of these are temperature sensitive...Again..as mentioned, the Vance plant needs a little work with its supplier's....
