THE R129 SL 73 AMG

Hey guys,

I have seen many pics, and heard a lot about the R129 SL 73 AMG. What's the deal with it? Was it avalible straight from Mercedes-Benz Europe? Also, when was it produced. The idea of a 7.3 Liter SL Sounds very tempting.

Here's some pics:

I really like the R129. Specifically the SL 73 AMG.

You gonna buy one? I saw a R129 a few months ago. Very nice, can't even imagine how fast the SL73 is.

Yea, sometime in the future. After I get my S600 back again. These things look amazing. I have driven the R129 SL 600 before, and it is super! Just like the S600, except it feels much lighter, but certainly has quality.

The R129's are AWESOME!!!!

the SL73 (600 bored out to 7.3litres) was the upgrade to the SL60 (500bored out to 6.9 literes). it was available by special order through most MB dealers in Europe. Rumour has it that this is the smae engine used in the Pagani Zonda 7.3S. I've seen a few in Switzerland when i lived there but neever got to haev a ride in one. i do recall getting smoked by one once on the motorway from Zurich to lugano (i was in my VR6 Golf).

The SL60 uses the M119 E 60 V8 - basically a bored and stroked 500 with a displacement of 5956cc. There is a very good thread regarding the SL73 on the AMG forum here.
