AsianML Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Hmm...New GL commercial shows the G as.... if it were the predessor of the GL. The GL is in an elevator type thing, and it opens and the GL drives out, and passes the G and there are several guys working on the G. The way its shown is as if the GL were replacing the G...Interesting.

Just the other day a guy was telling me he saw a new commercial for the "newly designed G" when he saw mine. Immediately I knew what he was talking about. I corrected him by saying to him the GL is a seperate class of vehicle and is in no ways a replacement for the G. The G is still going to be produced. I have heard rumors that MBUSA plans on selling the marketing, distribution, selling, etc... rights to a set-up like Europa. MBUSA's marketing of the G has been dismal. Anyways, I did not mean to get off on a tangent. It seems to me MBUSA is trying to make everyone think the GL is a replacement or redesign of the G. The only ones who know the truth are the G owners.

It doesn't look like it wants to get dirty. Exactly. It's definitely a decent SUV. I would wait for the 5.5L V8 though. It's very similar to the current trend of SUVs (Touareg, Range Rover, etc.)...unibody, reasonably priced, independent air suspension, on-road comfort foremost, low range transfer case, and optional rear locker. This is what makes money.

G350DT Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: Hmm...New GL commercial shows the G as.... I think that the GL is MBs answer to a bit higher end SUV for the higher class soccer moms in the US that want to stand a step above the ML but theit husbands will not go for the full blown G. The rage in the US at least in the north east is to see women driving H2s. I think the GL is also something to compete for that space. Side note : there is not much more then a 45 yo soccer mom driving a H2. I talked to one when I had my Unimog as was pulling her out of a snow bank. She said I had no idea how to put it in 4wd and I figured it would make the turn being a "real" suv. I had to tell her that with any SUV that driving was not a problem it is turning and stopping. About that time she noticed the Official Hummer Recovery Vehical sticher I painted on the back of the Mog. She was not impressed. Anyway enough blabing on about SUVs and people who have no idea what 4x4ing really is... GL a H2/H3 space fighter. A lot of MB only people out there that are happy to see it.
