ML 320CDI Vacation Fuel Mileage

Just back from vacation with the ML320CDI. 3,182 miles total. Average speed 52 mph - mostly 75-80 mph Interstate over flatlands and mountains; and average fuel consumption of 26.0 mpg.

700+ mile range on a tank. Gotta love it!

That's amazing for a total trip average.  And for a truck.

The whole way. Non-quantitative observation indicates that the A/C seems to have no negative effect on the fuel consumption. I know that doesn't make sense, but that's been my observation.

I read that today's engines are powerful enough where the A/C compressors and whatnot don't affect it anymore.

RE: ML 320CDI Vacation Fuel Mileage

I just returned from a 511 mile round trip with my ML 320 CDI. 85% highway cruise at 65-90 mph and 15% stopped as in I95 traffic. MPG tally using the tried and true slow fill to brim when begin and slow fill to brim when return-----26.2. I consider it fantastic for a car of this weight, luxury and complexity.

^^ that is good.  and about the a/c, I've found little to no effect on either of my MB's.

And, of course, compared to the aerodynamic drag from having your windows open, it's a no-brainer.

Re: ML 320CDI Vacation Fuel Mileage

With the temps in the 100's here I have left the a/c on 76. You are correct in that it does not seem to hurt mileage whatsoever. I still seem to get 18/19 around town in the wagon. How nice to have it cool!
