RE: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

Thanks all.
I just stopped by the shop and held up their 1982 MB paint chip card to the truck and the classic white DB737 looks damn close if not right on.
Their going to mix up a batch and shoot the door jamb where the hinge was repaired.
I guess then we'll see.

Re: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

I think that would be Cremeweiss from Mercedes Trucks, RAL 9001, Mercedes code 050 or 9050.
Glasurit says Line 22 as standard, Glasurit Line 68 shows mode codes.
The sites is updated as you can get all sort of information for the paint job if you click the next button.

Dupoint name the CREMEWEISS as GLW/RAL9001
Don't know what GLW would be, Geländewagen?

http://color.dupontrefinish.info/scripts/colorweb.dll/stockcode?p=0&s=4&mfname=MERCEDES+TRUCKS&mfcode=050&clname=CREMEWEISS+GLW%2FRAL9001&stcode=46283

The brightest Mercedes white is ArktikWeiss, 147 or 7147, I tested both sites and got the same result for Mercedes Wagons.
Both Glasurit and Dupont web sites come up with code 9201 if you use Cremeweiss for Wagons, Mercedes Trucks will refer to RAL 9001.

Re: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

So one of the architects in my office schooled me this AM on the RAL/Pantone/BS color charts. actually a ton of resources out there and there are converter charts you can get. Every RAL color chart we looked at specifies RAL 9001 as Creme which makes sense with the Cremeweiss (Cream white) reference above. He's hoing to give me one of his conversion charts from home and I'll scan and enter it here for you guys to reference.

RE: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

My paint guy talked to Dupont this morning and they knew exactly what RAL9001 was. After acknowledging it as a european fleet code they sent my guy the formula and within a few minutes he had a sample mixed. Color was spot on. Turns out the '82 MB DB737 classic white was way off or more simply, not the same.

I'll post the formula or cross over number when I get.

Re: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

That is interesting, Steve. It is weird that some of the codes line up with MB cars of the period and some do not. I wonder if that is more of a Steyr Puch common color? Yet another G wagen strange area. Really great that folks knew the RAL numbers.

RE: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

Here's the formula sheet that Dupont sent to my paint guys. They said it was the crossover from RAL9001. Notice the BMW White reference. They're going to shoot a panel for me to go check out. I'll post again.

For Mercedes the the difference is for wagon, trucks, Unimog, TRAC etc. BUT, some of the colour-databases on the web aren't too accurate about
colours, codes and the match to vehicles for like 20 years back in time. Some of the data must have been added wrong manually or imported
with fault into the web databases. I also found RAL9001 to Nissan for 1983, but at that time the vehicle was called Datsun in Europe....

RE: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

It's all weird.
Did you notice how dark the color is on the chip from Harald's site?
Not even close to RAL 9001 as we have seen.

I'm still confused but looking forward to seeing what these guys come up with when they shoot a sample.
We'll see.

The color calibration of that image must be way off -- notice the "Agave Green" looks like a very dark gray but it's actually supposed to be the color of my truck. mmm.. agave.

RE: "Trick" to G paint color codes?

I’ve been emailing with Steve and this is what I’ve found.
“Thanks so much Steve. I forwarded it to my daughter and used the heck out of your thread and the info in this email. The ppg guy here on Maui found the RAL chart and called it a “European stamdard”. I have got the door jambs and inside of all the doors and hood all painted and love the color. Another benefit of the standard is that it cost $5.79 a quart instead of the $57 per quart of mercedes color “classic white” from 82’ model year Mercedes color chart.
