OM617 weight

I am planning to buy an engine stand.  A local parts store has a 750lb one on sale.  Is this enough to hold my OM617A engine?

Thanks,

Steve

RE: OM617 weight

Info from the Norwegian forum:

An OM617 with flywheel, clutch, diesel pump, STT-turbo, alternator, both manifolds and 7 l. of oil masses 320 kg, which is 705 lbs. A 5 speed Getrag will add another 80 lbs (36 kg), and an automatic is heavier than that.

I think a 750lbs engine stand is cutting it close...

RE: OM617 weight

I bought a 1000lbs engine stand for my 617A. It was even "bowing" a little, but It did hold it! What a PITA!

Thanks, I'll spend a little extra and get a heavier duty one.
