RE: Colorado San Juans &/or N. Arizona &/or S. Utah

Karl,

As much as I would like to get there a day or two earlier than planned, I'm somewhat reluctant to land there in the middle of a Labor Day weekend. By getting there Monday night, I'm hoping the burdensome crowds will has dissipated.

Dutch,

I'm leaving Saturday morning probably around 4:00AM just to get out of Los Angeles while the crowds are still sleeping. Over the years we only saw the heavy traffic only to Las Vegas and one year we made the mistake coming home on Labor Day driving the Interstate 15 through Sin City....stop and go all the way to Los Angeles.

Silverton, Quray and Telluride might see some more visitors, but I doubt there are crowds in the mountains where we want to camp, most fools are watching the tube and the others are in Denver

You do have a much longer travel distance to get to the San Juan's, we keep the light on for you.....

Brent,

do you have the coordinates from the Angel Creek campground, Topo 7.0 doesn't have it listed.

Perhaps not perfectly exact, but these will get you there.

Angel Creek
N38 00.484 W107 41.418
8398 ft

Here's a link. Says it has restrooms and costs $12/nite.

I found it - thank you!

Exactly where I thought it may be - $12 bucks a nite with restroom - what a deal

Restroom might be pushing the truth. There is a campground with a pit toilet up the road a little. The best I have seen at the lower campgound is a porta-pottie, though that should suffice for a day or two.

I am going to head up to Ouray Friday morning for some work, and a little recon. My original plans to camp Sat night may have been scuttled, but I would consider camping Sun night if you want Karl. We could easily bypass the organized campsite for something a little more remote if interested. I know of several nice spots off the beaten path.

Ok Brent,
