We are in the Maze right now - and I guess you are right, ruthless place - Butch and the Sundance Kid were hiding out here after some robberies......

while we just enjoyed a wonderful sunrise with first row seating at the canyon's leadge - Danny, Dutch and I had our three-legged chair out in the morning

the adventure continues.....

That place is wild!

Is Dutch down there too? Time to mash some seriously OT stuff on the G forum.

BTW Karl - Ruth is always spelled with a capital letter.

Enjoy it.

Nothing short of spectacular

Great to see these vehicles doing what they were meant to do!

And good on you guys for being gracious enough to let the FJ tag along

Totally jealous.  Lazy, but jealous!

Near Bryce Canyon N.P.

On my own for a couple of days. Fernweh, his wife and I will do the final chapter of this Treffen on Tuesday when we go to the back country (4WD access only) campsite at Point Sublime on the North Rim of The Grand Canyon. Should be a great photo op with 270 degrees of canyon visibility.

RE: Sept 1 to 14, 2008 ~ U.S.A ~ San Juans, Moab and SW

I finally made it home Monday after a 4,000 mile round trip journey. This for me was the best Treffen yet. We had incredible weather in the San Juans and explored a good bit of the Maze in Canyonlands. What amazing scenery and a great group of folks! The views on a clear day in the San Juans are really breathtaking. Brent was a great host in Ouray and Telluride. I doubt if we all would have done Black Bear and Imogene without his advice and spotting. Everyone had a great time and got out without any mishap (except those which joined the cracked rear bumper club. All but Dutch cracked their rear bumper a bit in Ouray. I myself am a 3 time member!).

Karl, Dutch and I had a great day in Moab before moving on to Green River and the Maze. We did the Shafer switchbacks and after 3 times on that same trail over the years I had never seen it so dry and dusty. I will be cleaning out the inside of my G for days.

The Maze really lives up to its name. We saw one car on our way to the Ranger station and I never saw another soul from the time I left our campsite to Utah Highway 95. You really have to motivated or just curious to venture back in there. The trails are long the going is slow. But it was worth it.

The Icing on the Cake !

The final chapter on this year's Treffen took place at Point Sublime on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Fernweh, Mrs Fernweh and myself took the 20 mile 4WD track out to this back country campsite (permit required) right out on the point with a 300° panorama of the canyon. Conveniently, we had intermittent heavy cloud cover which added a lot of drama to the light on the rocks.

A perfect finale to a great Treffen; and, truly, the icing on the cake!

Wow - very impressive. As usually I don't know whether to thank you or resent you for sharing such gorgeous photos!

I think I'll go with thanks!

Hopefully we can get some equally great shots with an international gathering of P3 members in the Austrian Alps next spring!

Of all the things I've ever seen in my life, the Grand Canyon is the one which will not disappoint.

No matter how much hype you've heard, no matter how many photos you've seen, it will greatly exceed them.

For one thing, nothing can convey the stunning scale of the place.  You'll feel as though your field of vision was surgically expanded.

Congrats on such a successful Treff!
