Help Needed otiswesty - 3/19/2021 10:42 PM This problem ended up being a bad ignition switch not sending power to the K40. We have bypassed it so that the K40 is now powered by switched power from the relay panel independent of the ignition switch while we wait for a new ignition switch to come from Germany. It cut out while driving after another episode of no start the prior day. Fortunate to get it into a good shop while the problem was still occurring. Eric- when you say ignition switch, which part was bad? Not the steering lock or tumbler I assume?

Help Needed I'm talking about the ignition switch. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/1164620093.htm?pn=116-462-00-... Should I be replacing the steering lock at the same time for good measure? The new steering lock comes with an ignition switch as well, AFAIK. Edited by otiswesty 3/22/2021 12:12 AM (Switch.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Switch.jpg (98KB - 0 downloads)

I guess if it were me I’d do the steering lock if it hasn’t been addressed. Your screenshot reminds me- which EPC are you using? 7zap hasn’t been working well for a while now.

I recall Dutch replacing the steering lock back in 2006 as a PM. http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.asp?tid=3062&pos... The steering lock is not all that expensive...compared to it locking up and never allowing the ignition key to rotate and bull the lock's bolt back at the worst possible moment and location. When I did mine, it was because the bolt would not retract...until after a lot of patience and then I NEVER REMOVED the ignition key until the new steering lock came in. I removed the old one and decided to permanently pin the steering lock's bolt back. http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.asp?tid=20996&po... Edited by J.R. 3/22/2021 6:40 PM

Help Needed I guess once I have it out I will permanently immobilize the steering lock pin before reinstalling the assembly. I also have a the original steering lock and ignition switch from Dutch and will now add that to my box of road trip spares. Assuming it is "good used" condition. Thanks for the reminder JR.

Thanks for the reminder JR. with the steering lock removed, exercise the locking mechanism multiple times to find the "sweet spot". By that I mean, where the key can turn freely in a specific position of the lock's bolt. After you retract the bolt normally, try pressing the bolt in further and note the restriction when rotating the key.

I replaced the steering lock proactively. The old one was working fine, but I wanted to put in a greased up version to prevent it from seizing.
