I understand this Post is for a W210 Engine... BUT?? The WIS procedure is nearly the same for the Modular M112 & M113 Engines, with multiple W463 models listed in the Same WIS Documents as my W210. One of the MAIN diferences between the vaious models? Is the 'Stick-Out' Distance of the Torque Converter, so you MUST consult WIS for Complete Repair Instructions prior to you doing this yourself! Here is my W210 Story: Well, after a Pleasant stretch of Zero-Issues on the W210? I started getting a rather Ugly Oil leak on my floor at the 210,000 mile-mark. Having read these Modular Engines are known to have Rear-Main Seal leaks? I started my Diagnostic path, starting with Engine UV Dye leak testing, to make sure the oil was not making a circuitous route from Higher-up in the engine? I proved it was coming from the bottom of the bell housing.. Ok... I'll confess.... At 210K miles? I decided to go ghetto/*******, and tried the 'Mechanic-in-a-Can' approach, using both the fancy Luqui-Moly product, as well as a Lucas brand. ZERO Improvement! As you can see, it is a PUDDLE of Oil after an hour, or so, of driving.... Not simply a minor drip-drip! Soooo, after dreading the repair, I bit the bullet and decided to do the definative repair. As you can see, I am SUPER glad I took my M-B Dealer's advice, as they REPLACE the entire End-Cover, rather than merely the Rear Seal. Actually, there is a blurb in WIS about replacement, as well. Come to find out, my leak was the actual COVER, rather than the Seal!! Looked like a bullet punched throught the weird-o alloy metal plate, but my buddy @ M-B says it is a "corrosion" related failure. As always, this post is intended ONLY for 'Entertainment Value' and you MUST consult your Manual for the Actual Values/Procedures which apply to your particular model. "You bust your car?? Please don't blame me!!!" PLEASE use extraordinary care, as the transmission is rather heavy. Safety, Safety, SAFETY!! Hope this helps someone. "G"

Unfortunately, the latest software upgrade for the site limits the size of photos - not just is pixel length, but also in file size. Resizing will usually work.

I also used a new seal+plate rather than just the seal. I used sealant at all of the interface points. Can't see how it would hold otherwise.

I believe if you buy new valve covers they come with the breathers pre-sealed.
