Otherwise, it is very difficult to co completely; and that expensive Type 30 demands that you have all the old stuff out of there - three rinse clean. | ||

Remove the thermostat element from the housing and put it back on the engine. Once the elelment has been removed, you can't get it back in without damaging it; so that's why you need a new unit to replace the old. Hang on to that old housing for the next time you flush. It takes a Torx bit to remove it. Also, it's much easier to access the Torx screw head, if you remove the serpentine belt. Remove the upper radiator hose to facilitate this. Do you know where the two drain petcocks are located? Give me a couple of minutes; and I'll get the WIS insructions for you. | ||

I do not know, I being under the G but have not located them, thank you this is such a good help JV Attached are the relevant WIS pages. The drain cocks are located at the right front bottom of the radiator (drop the skid plate to access) and the right side of the engine block near the starter motor. The head of this one is rounded and has a 6 mm Allen head center. Don't forget to open the heater temp control to "hot". After the initial drain, removing the upper radiator hose makes it a lot easier to access the belt tensioning device and the screws for the thermostat.. Clean the old stuff out well. I have a Krikit tool for measuring tension of V-belts between drain/fill/drain, do I need to turn the engine on? Thanks again JV | ||

I loosened it as shown to remove the belt from the top pully. To reinstall it, you have to force the tension pulley, replace the belt; and let it go back to the tension on the belt. No adjustment necessary. That Krikit tool is for the old style V-belts. 2.) Don't run the engine unless it's full of water/coolant. You can do it; and it'll help to circulate/flush things out. Be cautious of the hot fluid, if you let the engine run too long; and don't fill a hot engine with cold water. Let the engine cool down first. I removed the hose from the small external coolant pump (right had inner fenderwell); and used it to flush the system with a hose. Do three times to be sure you have all the old stuff out. | ||
