G-Man Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | How to swap sills? Pics please. Hey All, A gifted Turk is working on my 300 GD's chassis, cutting away the rusty bits and welding on replacement metal. Today's projects are rear door and rear left corner under turn signal light housing. Tomorrow's project is a sill swap. My welding friend is trying to figure out the best way to mount the new sill without having to remove the vertical column that connects the sill to the roof of the truck. Do any of you have pictures you can post or send showing how you swapped your sills? I've scoured this and the old forum for pics already out there. Pictures, and advice would be most welcome. Also, if any of you wants a good door bottom, I think my dude's figured out a pretty bomb-proof steel set-up to replace the gnawed-up bottom of my back door. Also - is there an easy way to remove the back door? Thanks!

The bolts that hold the door on the hinges are behind the trim panel. Take it off and you'll see them. The bottom door check can be unbolted at the pivot. There is easy access to the rest of that mechanism when the door trim is off as well. -Dai

I can't give much advice on replacing the rocker panels but I can post a couple of pictures from when my truck was repaired. These are from my '85 GD. I removed the trim to reveal the bolts beneath... The first image is the piviot pin for the door brake. You can remove the pivot bolt. The other images show the bolts holding door to the hinges and the access to the door brake stuff in the lower slot in the door. It is all very straightforward. The only complexity to removing the door will be the disconnection of the electrics. If you have a rear wiper and/or window defogger there is a set of wires that will need to be disconnected and fed through the area that the harness is connected through. To remove the trim around the doorlatch lever, slide it to the left. I hope this helps you. Best of luck with your repairs. -Dai
