Yes, sproket 4, as noted by CEOG, I have a friend who has done the switch from 300 naturally aspired diesel to a turbo from an auto. Dave made the gasoline to diesel switch, and knows that landscape very well.
Anyway, there are three G's in Olympia, WA with diesel engines. Now one of these is turbo charged. I do have a mechanic locally with a spare engine from a 1983 or 84 W123 sedan. The car suffered a crash which did not seem to harm the engine. I have no vested interest in this, but would offer you his name and phone number should you wish to chat with him.
By the way, your 280 looks great. I like the PTO option and if I owned it, I would have to run out and buy some item of farm machinery - like a hay bailer or something like that just to play with it. Recall as a kid we had a 1947 jeep with PTO that we used for all manner of things on the farm. It never had real power like a tractor PTO, but it did work for light duty jobs. I suspect the G PTO is much better than that old jeep.

Well i still like that Blue one from Knoxville! It was a toss up. Is there much difference in ride quality from the 85 460 to the 90 463? I don't mind firm, but loud on the freeway really gets to me after a couple hours.
I hope this old truck still rides ok. I have never driven one very far. |

I have test driven about three they ride pretty solid but have some play in steering (all of them) an 85, 81, 79. So it might need tie rods...from my experiance. And they are kinda loud in side wind, tire and road noise. I have a PTO driven winch in my 1969 Nissan patrol. The winches I think are rare.

I've heard it mentioned being used for electric generators, hydraulic pumps and compressors.

Milemarker http://www.milemarker.com/ sells hydraulic vinches thar are meant to be used with the power steering pump. I think they can be used with a hydraulic pump run from the PTO as well. You might need some extra hydraulic parts.
