It is located in OR. I have a friend who called about it and was told 'they just found out' it is really a 1979 model. They also told him that there had been a rust repair to driver floorboard. Of course these revelations lessen the truck's appeal and undermine the credibility of seller perhaps, but he's still mildly interested, at least to the point of more investigation. I told him I'd troll for some input. Any knowledgeable comments gratefully accepted.

It lives in Salem Oregon. I looked over because she was interested in selling it and wanted my opinion. It is not a 280 GE. It is a carburated 230G. It has brand new, dealer installed Zeniths I believe. The truck is sound, no serious issues, a little rust in the engine compartment. I gave her the bad news about the fact it isn't an '85. I have an '85 and it was obvious that it was an early model, I think around an '80. Kind of sad story because a "very nice man" in Texas sold her the truck for a substantial amount of money and was representing it as a 1985 machine. She does not mean to misrepresent this truck. She is a mother of small children and does not know lots about the details of the G wagen. If this truck was a diesel I would have been successfull by now persuading my bride about the need to purchase this machine. It is an unmolested stock G Cabrio. I suggested to her to correct the registration to the right model year so it will be under the 25 year rule, which it is. That way there will be no problems with DOT and no problems with insurance. It's a good truck in my opinion. She has not driven it much in during the time she has owned it. If you or your friend wants to talk to me contact us throught the Lumoswine.com website. I will be happy to talk on the phone about what I know about it. -Dai Edited by dai 9/18/2006 9:49 PM

That was a nice G and so was she. My 300GD popped up right around the same time so I had to go diesel. I had translated her Vin to the correct numbers At the time it was off by 1 number. If this is the same truck I will try to find the correct vin. Mark

If you still have the VIN see if this is it. 460210170006010042615. I think it is a very nice machine and so is she. She bought the truck because her parents had one for a long time. Her's is straight, no serious rust, and runs well. It has lockers, no driveline vibration and a four speed manual transmission. It needs a little seat repair and attention to the paint in the engine compartment as I remember. A solid one. -Dai

When I researched her G from the VIN given I believe her's is the six hundred and first G built. Her VIN is WDB46021017000601 Hope this helps. Mark

I would agree that she is not trying to be dishonest. She proptly told me that it was not an 85 model. I can look at if needed. I think she is five minutes away. I'm not a G expert, but can tell you about overall condition and what it looks like now. I just purchased a 280GE, so i'm not in the market. M

Very early. Maybe some collector appeal as such, though 460 Gs aren't quite to that stage, AFAIK. -Dave G.

A slimebunny. The truck has been cared for and is in remarkable shape for a '79. -Dai
