It seems as though it comes through where the door meets the rubber but at speeds below 60mph you dont hear it. The door fits solid. New rubber was installed on all doors. If it is pretty common I will let be and just turn the radio up a bit. If it is common on the W460, did they improve on the W463 ? Mike

And mine is a cab. You would think I would have a lot of roar. Have you checked to make sure the gap of the door to the body is the same all around. Also is the surface of the door flush with the surface of the body? In other words if you run your hand from the skin of the door to the skin of the body is it a smooth transition or is one taller than the other? Mark

I cannot tell if it is the rubber door molding or whether wind is coming through the "window" rubber and sounds like above. I may have to spend some time with masking tape and frequent road tests to determine. Mike

The felt looking window frame inserts could be at fault. Are they loose (floppy) inside the channel? Are they torn or cracked anywhere? Are the windows tight in the frame when closed or wobbly? When partially down does the window glass flop about? Additionally I replaced the thin plastic window strips that attach to the door at the bottom of the window seal. Any of these could be the answer Mark Edited by Inkblotz 9/20/2006 10:26 PM

You will need to fish the window glass around it but its not a tough project. I don't think the guides are that expensive. should be similar to most mercedes of that era. Mark

He had no wreck. The noise appeared in the fourth year of ownership. It was determined he had some defect on the windshield. He fixed it with some silicone. But it sounds like you have ponpointed the issue. I thought I would just share this bit of information. Have fun with the fix!

I've concluded that between my tires (Yoko Geolander ATs) and the tropical roof, I would be unable to hear a door/window wind noise at 35mph, let alone 60! So, now you got me trying to figure out if I have the same issue and I just can't hear it! I'm driving along and moving my head closer and closer to the window....this is worse than jabbering on my cell phone....whoops I can't do that either due to the road noise! While I struggle with this Zen koan (does the sound exist if I can't hear it over the road noise?), I thought I'd let the rest of you chuckle. I think I'll go pester Steve about the winch bumper as a way to avoid the whole thing...

I fought a similar noise in my 300sd and found it to be the rubber around the side mirror was whistling a bit at freeway speeds. unfortunatly, where I live there is open highway between me and the next city so anytime I need to do something in town or commute it always involves 70mph for 30 miles one way. I always have plenty of time to think about things as I am coming or going .....it is obvious I dont have too much to think about. AHHH th joys of being single and owning a G. (chuckle #2) Mike

While driving at 60/65 mph, put the back of your hand over the door release catch area. If you feel a draught ,its pretty sure the window slides and seals need replacing.

I still have to test the window rails but did not feel anything air by the door handle. I may choose to live with it and crank up my Abba and Burt Bachrach cds.....yikes. Mike

On a side note: The feeling for the breeze from the door handle is a good one however there is a plastic sheet glued between the door panel and the door frame. Sometimes the position of this plastic can seal that opening and keep the breeze from occuring. Mark Edited by Inkblotz 9/22/2006 7:49 AM
