Dutchh,

There's not much opportunity to get together with other G owners, and I just don't understand why it wasn't announced or discussed here in a reasonably visible way.

Well, when a resource is mentioned, I ass-u-me that people will take advantage of it without having to be flogged repeatedly. There was a fair amount of discussion on that Treffen email list for those who were subscribed.

I would suggest that, if you have an interest in next year's Treffen, you subscribe to the list now while it's fresh in your mind. There won't be any traffic until planning starts for the next trip; so a deluge of email from the list is not a worry.

I cannot imagine how one thread, with one post, for one day, posted two months before the treffen happened could even be remotely close to a subject being flogged repeatedly.

So very disappointing.

Great Pics guys, I'll certainly be there to meet you all next year! My 280's top-end should be complete here shortly. As far as info on the treffen is concerned, I don't know how anyone can be dissapointed for any other reason than, say having to stay home with a torn apart G. Personally I thought the info was readily available, but then again I do spend a lot of time surfing the internet for anything Mercedes-Benz.

For next year, has anyone thought about the trail (I foreget what it is called) that runs along the north rim of the grand-canyon and southern utah? It was featured in four-wheel drive magazine a while back. Looks very cool!! I'll see if I can dig up that acticle.

Now you have me curious. Please do find it. I've been to a couple of different not-automobile-accessible locations on the North Rim, but don't know of anything that runs for the distance you mention.

Great pictures Dutch,

The Moab part looks really like a 'Greyhound - Treffen'!
I know the G's came in all kind of different colors - we need some of those, maybe not a LR-green.......

Do you have any pictures from the victorious moment, when the three G-Wagen's showed the guided 4x4 jeep tour how to avoid their various 4x4 vehicles and circumnavigated this road block through the water filled ditch under a 45 degree angle - with not even one wheel slipping!!! ?

BTW - guys - we never missed a meal anyhow, no matter where we went....

Thanks! I can't wait to be there. I've really been enjoying my G lately, now that I'm home and worked out the little bugs. plus I'm well on my way to optimizing it. The one thing that's a little hard to get used to is how exclusive it is, along with the the hard fact that there just aren't many organized meets or treffen's for the G enthusiast. I'm not saying that's all bad, but it does remind me of owning a Land Rover in the 70's, at least in the USA. Back then it was several years years before that first trip too. That's ok, I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

Wall Mural

The first shot looks almost like I parked in front of a large wall mural.

It's "Oh Point" on the Engineer Loop Trail in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado.

The second one is Tomo's rented Grand Cherokee boosting me up the trail near the beginning. That car and driver did very well in some quite challenging sections.

I had to bring up the rear of the 2006 G Treffen! I was running about a week behind everyone but had a great time. Fortunately I was able to hook up with a few folks in Moab for dinner. I wound up in Ouray on Sunday after everyone moved on to Moab. I tried Imogene but had to turn back due to the snow up top. From there I did part of the Ophir and Alta Lakes trails. This was my first time to Ouray and I must say the scenery was spectacular. It's also hard for someone from Tennessee to see snow in mid-September!

Monday was Moab and getting ready for some more trails. Since I was unable to do some of the trails in Ouray, I was determined to do the White Rim. I was fortunate to have gotten a camping reservation at the Airport Tower campground on the White Rim. I got the campground Tuesday afternoon and set up my tent. Later I met a trio of mountain bikers from Salt Lake who were in the campground next to mine. We all had some dinner and enjoyed a beautiful night. The stars, etc. in Moab are incredible. Since I had 80 miles to drive the next day, I retired somewhat early. There was also the chance for thunderstorms the next day.

I got rolling before 8:00 am and all was looking well. After an hour the clouds rolled in and several hours later it started to rain. I managed to get out of the more difficult stuff before the conditions got worse. Climbing up the switchbacks on Mineral Bottom was interesting since the road had turned to mud. I locked up the center diff and made it all the way up without too much fanfare. A pickup truck ahead of me had fish-tailed all the way up and one of the passengers had had enough and decided to get out and walk.

Overall I had some great days in Moab, Ouray and Telluride.

On the return leg, I spent the night in Crested Butte and I woke up with 5 inches of snow on the G.

I too would like to spend more time in and around Ouray next time. The camping and trails looks amazing without the snow!

I would have caught cold without this. Hot in the sun, chilly under the shade. And over 4000m elevation in late September. (Grand Cherokee without low gear made it!!)

The "Super Dutch" picture reminds me of an expression I was introduced to when reading "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" by Aron Ralson, the guy who had to hack his own arm off with his leatherman multitool after being pinned by a boulder in a slot canyon in UT. The saying is (he didn't make it up, but I forget the original credit - he scrawled it on the canyon wall at one point in his ordeal) "Geologic Time Includes Now". The meaning is that many a gigantic boulder you see at the base of a cliff, half burried, or covered with lichens or whatever, got to that point during an instantaneous catastrophic event at some point in time. And lots of other boulders are out there waiting for their instant, or just the right combination of wind, mice, man, temperature, what have you to move.

Geologic Time Includes Now..... kind of sticks with you....
