Well, Well, This response makes me feel like the old Gwagen thread has been revived.
I thought we would never get back to the helpfull informative forum again.
I guess the good things in life never die.
I will be the first to admit that you guys have managed to restore my enjoyment of this new forum.
Bless all of you! You too Dutch for hanging in with us and making the new forum a success.

Sure, if you want it to be so.

RE: Strange Happening Today with the G500 - Thoughts?

I learned in my earlier days when I was an appretice that if one listened and was genuinely interested then the guys with the experience would give it up. I for one appreciate the knowledge given on this forum. I can walk into a shop and feel that I have some idea of what I am in for when I need repairs in this technical time. There must be several hundred years of experience here. I have on occasion to have the given knowledge help me when explaining my problems to a trained G technician. For that I say THANK YOU guys!

Re: Strange Happening Today with the G500 - Thoughts?

There are only two types of people who drive Mercedes in the US. Those who can afford them, and those who can work on them! I found out early on that the Mercedes Diesels were extremely well built and would run forever.
I grew up in a marina and working with marine diesels everyday. When I worked on a Mercedes diesel, it was typically a "piece of cake". Because of this, I have been driving Mercedes since I was 15 years old.
Since then, I have acquired A LOT of experience with Mercedes. Mercedes has used nearly identical technology through all of their lines of vehicles. So when it comes to G-Wagons, it's like the cars, but much better built for the long haul and terrain.

As I learn more and more (typically from experience and finding it out the hard way and how NOT to do it...), I am happy to pass along this information to others. Especially with G-Wagons, there is always something that I do not know. Since there are so few people out there with G-Wagons, the people on this forum become your best friends...

Re: Strange Happening Today with the G500 - Thoughts?

In the UK you don't have to be rich or clever to drive a G wagen, its only taxes that make them expensive in the USA and a lack of practical ability that drives the average vehicle owner into the clutches of the expensive workshops.
G Wagens were originaly designed to be " soldier proof " and as such the older ones 460s 461s, like the early Landrovers are not that technical, and with that background the average owner can fix them, the later models are too technical for the original function and are more a fashion statement than a usefull off road vehicle in my opinion.
I have owned both ends of the scale so my opinion is born out of experience, all the gismos in the world are not a bit of good to you if the whole thing shuts down because you pressed the go pedal a bit harder than normal or passed a TV transmitter, and not a lot of use if you are in a war zone and the vehicle you want to avoid is carrying an IED.
For me. less is more.
But yes it's great to have the help when you need it at least it avoids paying those huge charges that MB seem to have unified world wide.

Gwagens, IED's & Paul

.

Since you mentioned IED's, I just received an email from Paul in Canada. The Canadian Military G which hit four (4) buried anti-tank mines and had its entire front end blown off last December (I think the attached photo is that G), is now on display at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. Paul will be going there for a speech in November, and promised to send photos.

(As a side note, Paul sounds to be pretty much in good spirits; but he did sound like emails of encouragement would be welcome, as he's still struggling with rehab. If you want his email address, drop me an email.)

It's nice to see you have a sense of humor.

A quick fix is to delete your own post.
