Anyone tried running the Maxxis Buckshot Mudder on their G?

RE: Maxxis Buckshot

I have not run them on a G, but I am running them on my Ford. Never again! They are very loud. I also had to have 2 of the tires shaved when I put them on due to fact they were out of round.

I recently bought a set of Maxxis Bighorns, which have a different tread pattern and bit of tread on the side. Haven't taken them off road yet, but they seem OK and not too noisy on the road.

That's no good. What were they like off-road?

Re: Maxxis Buckshot

I ran Buckshot Mudders on my Land Rovers back in the late 70's, and early 80's. Been through many sets of them in sizes P78-15 and Q78-15. They were fantastic off road in most conditions, and particularly in the mud, better the BFG mud-terrians, probably in line with Super-Swamper TSL's. However they were pretty lousy on the pavement. VERY noisy, very soft and sloppy feeling, and they wear fast and unevenly. On-road handling is definitely a worse than a BFG Mud-Terrian (MT), which of course is already worse than a normal all-terian. I switched over to BFG MT's and later BFG AT-KO's and Michelin XZL's.

I'm not sure how they have evolved over the years, and back then they were not radial tyres. Today's versions may be completely different.

Edit-After looking at the tyre's picture, the tread design looks somewhat different than I remember. Please take the age of my experience into consideration.

Just talked to someone who has put the Bighorns on and loves them. Might be the go for me then. Need to decided by the morning as I can get them cheap and put on my G for free.

I paid $A185 each for mine (31x10.5R15) (At today's exchange rate that's $NZ212). See if you can do better.

Re: Maxxis Buckshot

235/85/16 for $NZ248 normally but I'm getting mine for about $NZ215 fitted and balanced.
That's a 31.7 inch tall tyre. Your tyre is $NZ213 normal price plus fitting etc over here. So same price. I'd get it for about $NZ190 fitted etc
