Paint those wheels black to match the rack & bar.

The thought has crossed my mind

Re: 280G vs 300GEL

I've owned my G for less than a week and I have already pulled two cars back on the road that have crashed!
Both times they were going around corners to fast and went through a fence.

I need to somehow mondify my spare wheel cover. It's having problems covering the 235/85/16. Kind of spoils the look of my G....

Owning a G has its duties.  Nice rear view of G by the way.

Oh!  I forgot to mention about the spare tire cover.  The elastic string at the bottom is not broken, right?  If it is not broken, all it should be is just a simple lining up the MB insignia in the middle and just tucking (pulling) at the edges of the cover to the rear until you see no creases anymore.  Then you will have a taunt and tidy look.

I see you have fold down jump seats in the rear.  Cool!

RE: 280G vs 300GEL

Is that a step to access the roof rack at the foot of the left side passenger door (just front of the rear tire) ?? I just noticed you dont have fender flares but protection bars that go from the bumpers to which appears to be the frame.
Very unique. Nice ride...looks very rugged.

Re: 280G vs 300GEL

Yep it is a step. But it is stuck down so I'm having to look at getting it chopped off it sticks out and could get caught up when I'm off road. I'll cut it off then look at getting it put back on.
No flares. I thought about taking of all the bull-bars/roof rack and putting the flares on but I'll be doing a lot of off-roading so decided to leave them on. Plus it does give it a more rugged look

Tried everything and cannot get it on properly. The spare is simply to big... oh well

The jump seats are cool. Just on one side though. Also had a nice surprise yesterday when I discovered the original owners manual, fire extinguisher, medic kit and warning triangle. Didn't even look at them before I bought it. Best get a new extinguisher though.

Also the options that I thought would be standard - clock, rev counter, headlight washers. Plus other options - split rear bumper, twin sadle tanks.

So I'm a happy G owner. One of only four known 280GE LWB in NZ and one of only two manual LHD and the other one has different specs. So it is the only G like this in the whole country. Kind of cool I guess.

I had the same problem as you. My G came with 205R16s tyres and when somebody before me upgraded to 235/85R16 the spare was left with an old tyre in the former size. Obviously, I wanted to have a usable spare and bought another 235 but then the cover wouldn't fit. However, I found a place where they made affordable semi-rigid covers in the UK> http://www.muddyweb.co.uk/

For £ 25 + pp + the cost of the sticker from Mercedes (£ 15) I got the cover you see in the picture made to measure.

I am sure that there must be something similar in NZ.

Cheers

That's a great looking cover. Good idea. Thanks for that.
