Re: Wife wants a G now

Captain Spalding is selling his 1991 300GE Cabriolet. Its black with tan leather interior, 5 speed getrag tranny, factory springs adding a bit of lift, warn winch, and 33 inch bfg muds on it. Beautiful truck that I wish I could find some way to justify buying living in San Francisco with 2 cars already. He is asking 30k and I believe the vehicle has about 60k miles on it. Hope that helps.

Re: Wife wants a G now

My wife has decided she would like a 463 as well. But they are very very hard to find in New Zealand so she'll be waiting a while. We're about to build a house but give it a while and we'll start looking overseas for one.

Re: Wife wants a G now

Gentleman -

This G thing is a disease. First me then my wife then my father and then....

One suggestion is that the 3 door with little kids is a bit of a tough go as the seats need to be moved for the little ones to get in and out. The good news is they can not get out but the bad news is that you have to get them in and out. That said, my 6 and 9 year old LOVE my wife's SWB and are constantly arguing about who is going to have it when they can drive. They are much less in love with my LWB. The wife loves the size of the SWB (as do I).

I think a G500 convertable is what my wife would love.

Re: Wife wants a G now

I saw those too. I am surprised 230G (Richard) has not said anything already about those eBay Gs. I think the one in Beaumont, TX was advertised before.

MarcO is right. Not only is a G a disease, it is contagious and can spread to any family members. My mom is trying to pester my dad to buy a G.

Re: Wife wants a G now

All it takes is one wicked storm and the need to go somewhere. Friends do not let friends drive anything but G's. This tends to include immediate family.

Re: Wife wants a G now

The G fever has taken over our family and extended family as well, I would go so far as to say that within the next 18 months we will have 10-12 G's with family and friends put together.

Re: Wife wants a G now

And yet MBUSA will not bring over a diesel and as the vehicle gains momentum they keep try to kill it? After the '02/'03 fiasco (service unavailable from the dealer and electronics) one would think that there would be one smart marketer in all of MBUSA who would tap into all the warm fuzzies that our post 9/11 desire to be safe has fostered. It really is not the leather or the styling - it is the solid feel and the ability to go where few fear to tread - and sometimes that is just at the mall (think 2 feet of water and a washed away curb). Or the median on the LIE when there has been a 4 car pileup. Or you need to pick up your Dad at the Airport that was just closed down because of a blizzard and the car services are talking about a 3 to 5 hour wait. And this is just the urban jungle. (all these things have happened to me in the past year!) I have not even mentioned the Hummer H2 I towed through 2.5 feet of water after it got water logged under the Van Wyck by Kennedy tonight!

Re: Wife wants a G now

I mention the next 18 months for a significant reason. I have very good information and assurances that a diesel G-Wagen will be available in the good ol' US of A, however, it may be on a limited basis. I will be able to also obtain the vehicle in California, it may come California certed, or I may have to do the 7500 mile trick, either way Ive been assured that I could start picking my options now...

Re: Wife wants a G now

Well, the individual who gave me the information was also informed by myself and 4 other friends/family members that if this were indeed true, they could expect 5 deposit checks. One from me, one from my father, one from my godfather, and two from other good friends of ours. Thats five for sure sales, I wonder how many more they could sell off this forum alone, perhaps 15 or 20? I desperately hope my source is as correct as he promises. Frankly, I'm not quite sure what else I'm going to buy when I decide to sack my ML500.

Re: Wife wants a G now

The demand is out there if Daimler Chrysler knows where to look. I had a conversation about this with my building neighbor Titziano. He currently drives a Range Rover and his "lady friend" as he refers to her drives a G55 which he loves. I told him about the prospect of a diesel G and he unequivocally said that he would purchase a G320 CDI as his next vehicle if it were made available. He loves driving the G55, but he, just like me has to deal with living in a city of poor gas mileage and steep streets as well as a desire to use our G-Wagens for more than just looking pretty. Diesel is the way to go with this vehicle, at least for my wants and needs...

Re: Wife wants a G now

Sorry all was a busy as heck weekend.
I have looked at both of the 96 Gs on ebay and was waiting to see just how high they go before bidding.
I know what we will spend and no use bidding when it is going to go for a lot more...
We have also talked to the local MB dealer and they are also looking into certified ones as they will also take out Land Rover in as a trade.
