Steel Wheels??

I have a set of 255/55/16 tires laying around that I would like to use for driving around town to get some extra oompf from the use of the smaller tires when not off-road.

Has any one fitted these to the factory steel wheels??

If yes, does anyone in the Colorado area have a set that they are willing to part with?

RE: Steel Wheels??

The stock steel rims are only 5.5" wide. I have some 235 85's that fit okay.

RE: Steel Wheels??

235s are even wider than what shoul be fitted on a 5.5" wheel.

Re: Steel Wheels??

I have fit 235s to a 6 inch wheel before without too much drama, but I'm really not sure I'd go any wider.

An alternative may be to pick up some V-class wheels?

RE: Steel Wheels??

Q had some 265/85 Buckshot Mudders on 5.5's.  They didn't fall off or anything.  They'll be a little "chubby" and will make it a little soft in cornering, but for light duty use would be fine.  I also ran 255/85 Coopers on a couple 5.5 wheels I had as spares before I rounded out the stable with 6 good 6" wheels.  They ran okay too, but wore the centers of the tires a little quicker than the edges.

Re: Steel Wheels??

You can put these on. It's going to look really funny donut and it's going to wear unevenly. Really not the combination that you would be looking for on-road. Off-road it might work and you rims would be nicely protected
